rankings based on data

by: Just for Fun

It seems a few people are interested in an updated statistical ranking. Using the same method to accumulated the data that I previously used: 1. Actual Member Totals 2. Retention Rates 3. Overall Growth rates over a 3 year period 4. Current GPA averages and 5. GPA growth. Each category was given equal weight to determine the statistical ranking.

Based on the above mentioned criteria: KD is still holding the top spot, next would be DDD, then Chi-O, closely followed by Pi Phi, Phi Mu and AOPi (in that order); next in line and tied for the 7th spot would DG and ADPi, Kappa would be followed by Theta for the 8th and 9th place. I did not include Alpha Phi in the ranking because they have not been on campus for three full reporting years.

As I said before, this ranking is based solely on numbers. I do feel using this method can give an indication of sorority satisfaction (retention rates) and member quality (GPA) as well as using actual membership totals to determine viability. It is not an exact science however and will in no way replace someone's personal preference.

This is the best post ever. I love numbers - they don't lie.

In answer to the question if there were differences, yes there were.

Using the same formula the rankings after Fall 2016 were: KD, DDD, tied for third were Chi-O and Pi Phi, then Phi MU, AOPi, then Kappa, DG and ADPi were tied at 7th place, and then Theta.

After Spring 2017 there was a small shift between Chi-O and Pi Phi. Phi Mu and AOPi came very close to a tie for 5th place, but Phi Mu had the slight edge. DG and ADPi tied for 7th place moving Kappa down from their previous 6th place spot to the 8th place spot.

I will say that breaking down the numbers can give you a good idea of what areas each sorority needs to work on. What their strengths are and where their weaknesses are.

I am also going to say I worry a little about this ranking. There are several sororities (not going to name names) that get pretty vicious on Greekrank. It doesn't take much to stir them up.

This is better than the endless "personal" opinion rankings.

This needs to be read by every PNM - instead of all the crazy posts by people with mental health issues.

The only way to rank is by comparing numbers. Everything else is just personal opinions.

Dumbest post. Data won't serve as your bridesmaid. Data won't stand beside you when a parent dies. Data won't be there to wipe your tears when your boyfriend breaks your heart. Data won't be there to celebrate when you get your dream job. Data won't be there to be Godmother to your first born.

Pick a sorority based upon real friendships with real people. People will be there for you, not data.

you make it sound like the top sororities on the data means that they don't have genuine people and they you won't be able to find friends if you join these certain sororities.

I'm a senior in a top sorority based on this "data" list and let me tell you- My sisters will serve as my bridesmaids. They'll stand beside me when a parent dies. They will be there to wipe my tears when my boyfriend breaks my heart. They'll be there to celebrate when I get my dream job. They'll be there to be a Godmother to my first born.

I understand what you are trying to say but I picked a sorority based upon real friendships with real people. It was a top sorority and these friends are there for me. Stop trying to make it look like you have to look outside of a "top" sorority to find friends and genuine people.

I'm not sure why 'alum' was 'triggered' by a mathematical ranking, all it did was offer another way to look at the sororities based on numbers. Plus no one gets to 'pick' their sorority. The whole recruitment process is one big numbers game anyway. Every single person who is selected by a sorority can find their bridesmaids and godmothers for their children, and their friends during times of grief or joy - if they come into their sorority ready to meet new people.
