variable quota
by: Just sayingSomething to keep in mind. Variable Quota was established last year to help even out the sororities numbers. Of course KD, DDD and Chi-O have the lowest quota numbers, their numbers were reduced by about 40 to 50 from previous years. So if Variable Quota had been started three years ago that means there are close to 120 girls (in KD, DDD and Chi-O) who would not be in those sororitys. Those girls would have had the exact same resumes but they would have ended up in one of the other sororities.

What are the criteria to get in top sororities, such as gpa, act score, etc.? How much influence do recs play in the rush process? Do you have to have at least one active "pulling for you" in a sorority to get a bid? How may girls are going through rush this year and and how many will be cut?

So much good advice in this post. You have to be strategic day 1 with your rankings. If you have no rec at a top house rank them low and keep your options open. They will be nice to you because they want a high return rate. Be strategic from day 1 and get a full schedule back day 3. Then you have some control. Stop giving top houses bragging rights.

Plus one of the benefits that NO ONE talks about is that VQ helps keep girls from falling through the cracks and being strung along by sororities that know they don't want you / have room on their bid list for you- I rushed 2 years ago before VQ and was strung along and cut by all but one sorority the day of pref. THAT FREAKING HURT A LOT! Had VQ been in place I would have been cut earlier, not "fallen in false love" with a house that knew they didn't want me, and truly been able to give other houses that did want me a chance.

Variable Quota was established by Panhellenic to even out the numbers. KD, DDD and Chi-O will probably have a quota number of around 100. DG, Phi Mu, Pi Phi and AOPi will probably have quotas of around 125. Kappa, Alpha Phi, ADPi and Theta could have quotas as high as 180.
It would be great if your preference choices match up with the sororities that want you - however the reality is it might not work out that way. I always hate to hear the "find your home" because you might fall in love with a sorority but that sorority doesn't end up on your preference list. The best advice is "GO IN WITH AN OPEN MIND" and don't stress. All of our sororities here at Ole Miss are amazing. There are beautiful, smart, funny, and talented girls in every sororities just like every sorority also has social awkward and weird girls. Freshman don't know how much work goes into selecting each new member and if you are fortunate enough to receive a bid from an Ole Miss sorority it means that sorority wanted you. I promise you can love any sorority you are invited to if you give it a chance.
