tattoos in sororities

by: Carrie

I have a fairly large tattoo on my arm and on my side rib cage. It is colorful and it is visible. Do sororities accept tattoos or do I need to cover it up? I am proud of it but now that I'm in college, I don't want it to keep me from my social life. I'm regretting this decision now.

if it's small and cute then it doesn't matter even if it's visible

if it's big and visible then yes it'll hurt you. most lists are made by alumni. we are in the deep south and bible belt, tattoos are not seen as a good thing by them, so yes i'd cover it up

but if you are girly and fit the ole miss sorority type then you'll be fine
if you are like a freak show or something lol yeah don't

Tat's are very Orange Beach and Panama City. Most of the people who get them can't afford them.

Don't cover it up. Yes, large tattoos are generally frowned upon by some sororities but the whole point of rush is to find your home. One where you can be you, big tattoo and all. You want to run to a house that wants your kind of individuality and there are some here.

Just curious - are you from way out of the South where big tattoos aren't a big deal?

I am from central Mississippi. I want to have a tattoo. I don't care what others think. But I think that all of the sororities should just chill . If I want a tattoo and be a tri Delta I should be one.

What kind of reaction have you gotten from actives you've met?

And given what you wrote, then why bother covering it up?

Get it removed ASAP. I would start laser and cover it up. Find a big bandage or wear outfits with longer sleeves.

Carrie,
I can't tell if you're really wanting advice on what others would do in your situation. I would cover up a tattoo during rush, but you need to be yourself. I don't want to lie that houses won't care because I think some will, but if you want to find a group that accepts you for who you are then that's an important consideration. Some houses may cut based on a big tattoo but some may not. My goal is not to be cruel but answer your question honestly. My main advice is to enjoy meeting a bunch of new women and have fun.

I would cover it up during rush. That is my opinion after rushing girls for 3 years. You would probably cover it up for a job interview, right? I'm personally not fond of tatts, and would not like to see one on an 18 year old young lady. But, I am old, so...
After rush, do what you want, but I'd cover it up.

Dear Girls
It is 11pm and y'all are stressing me and I'm "old". The best thing to do at this point is turn off your phones and computers and get some sleep. Looking and being tired is not a good way to start Day 1.
You are going to need a lot of energy. Go in with an open mind. Please. I rushed at Ole Miss, was not a legacy, and only knew a handful of girls. I pledged in the top "tier"! I only knew girls in that house I'd met in rush
Numbers and statistics are nothing to stress about.
Get to bed because sleep is the only thing you can do right now. Don't stay up worrying.
Good luck! Be yourself! The BEST you can be! Have fun, but go to bed.
