Its truly good that the preimminent university in the state caters to its own residents. Also, for generations those residents have sought after membership in three or four sororities. Good for you. HOWEVER, do you realize that the student population has almost doubled over the last 10 years, while the population of the State of Mississippi has not? Therefore, Ole Miss admits many, many out-of-staters, who could care less about how much the locals love XO, DDD, KD or DG. In fact, those sororities really don't even need to rush: their lists are ready weeks before rush, and if they fall short (which they have) nobody objects to receiving the snap bid. Good for them. There are simply alot of girls from Texas, Illinois, Tennesse, Missouri etc. who are bright, beautiful and popular AND who actually really, really want to be a Pi Beta Phi or Phi Mu or AOP or even a Kappa or Theta. AND all of these sororities ALSO have plenty of bright, beautiful, popular and affluent girls from metro-Jackson! The sorority that seems to perplex the locals the most is Pi Beta Phi. "Somehow" they consistently do all the things that should classify them as top tier. Old timers from the "most affluent Mississippi suburbs" and from across the state will scorn this kind of talk because the principal way of building themselves up is to put something else down: somethingt they just don't get because its not their way and because of their narrow way of looking at things. Bigger vision please!
