You pay for everything. Nothing is free expect maybe the gifts you get from your big but the following year you repay that favor to someone else. Every tshirt you get with your letters on it is not included in your dues. Some chapters pay $8 for their tshirts while others pay $15 to 20. Sorry but that's reality.

I'm pretty sure I have close to a million shirts. A lot were given as gifts during and after bid day, my big gave me a basket full, my parents included one in my bid basket and I have bought a few. Some are from special events. If I ever decided to have one of those quilts made with them, I could probably have around 50 quilts.
