2017 trend predictions

by: Hotty Toddy

My opinion. Argue with this if you want. This isn't a rank.
---
Trending up- KD, Kappa, Pi Phi, Aphi
Trending down- Chi O, AOII
No change- DDD, Phi Mu, DG, ADPi

(Theta is hard to place because their last pledge class was so much better for them but they'll traditionally be bottom house)

Interesting - you only have 4 sororities in the correct category.

Trending up (in order)-
Aphi - biggest trending up (mostly because they started from the bottom so it's easiest for them), new house etc
KD - was last year the most desired, will be this year the most desired (not the best though, DDD is, although KD is closing the gap)
DG//PiPhi/ADPi - all trending up. obv rank order is dg, then piphi then adpi so it's easier for adpi to trend up than dg
Kappa/Phi Mu -barely trending up. mostly trending up due to quota so they are getting some top tier girls that would other wise be in top tiers if it weren't for quotas, but they aren't trending up like dg/piphi they are compared with

Trending down:
DDD - once considered in a top top tier of their own, they have been trending down for years now. still considered the top sorority, but that may not last long.
AOII - once considered in a league with kappa/phimu/dg/piphi, but aoii is now barely hanging on their middle tier rank. classy like XO but not as smart or legacy status, fun like kappa, but fun to talk to, not to party with

No change:
Chi O- considered top tier by most, some question it, but legacy status is there, smart, classy girls, but they become irrelevant after rush. Same story every year: trending up leading up to rush, then mostly forgotten and trending down throughout the year

I came from out of state and although I liked chi o during rush, I don't get the hype to call them a top house... they are a top retaining house because not one of their pledges would dream of dropping them and are chi o til they die... and that's great... but I didn't want chi o and neither did anyone I know. It wasn't a house anyone strived to be in and those girls who did, already knew they were going there. For that reason I always think of chi o as trending down... to me they are kind of wallflowers like aopi and only desired by a certain Jackson crowd.

While I think it's great they don't have to worry about where their pledge class is coming from, and they don't have to hustle or work hard. They are also not desired.

Tri delt and KD and even DG are still a goal and an extreme outside chance for some girls... most going through their highest hope is Kkg and phi mu...trending or not the chi o thing I just really don't get!

I rushed last year and pretty much everyone I knew wanted to be a Chi O just as much as KD and DDD. Those 3 are on an even playing field and it just depends on a personal preference for which you like better, but Chi O is definitely included in that. I'm in a different top tier and we compete hard with them for rush and tons of girls pref Chi O/KD or Chi O/DDD every year and some pick Chi O and some pick the other.

Those 3 houses are very solid and a lot of PNMs go into rush wanting one of the 3. DG is sometimes included too. It's just all about personal preference when it comes to which one of the 3 is the best

There's opinions and then there's facts. Currently KD, DDD and Chi-O are trending the same. Taking recruitment numbers, variable quota, retention rates, and GPA into account, they maintain their same status.

Using the same measurement format DG and Kappa are struggling with slightly higher than average retention rate issues. This is over the past three years including the 2016-2017 academic year. Kappa lost 12% of their membership between the end of the Fall 2016 and the end of Spring 2017. By the numbers DG and Kappa are both trending downwards. Although Kappa has shown an improvement in GPA over the past three years, DG however has shown a decline.

Phi Mu, Pi Phi and AOPi are almost neck and neck by the numbers. GPAs are within the exact same range and all three have increased considerable over the past three years. These three will have comparable variable quota numbers (along with Kappa and DG) and they should have no problems filling their quotas. Phi Mu and AOPi recruited almost the same number of girls and had similar retention rates. Pi Phi recruited a higher number than Phi Mu and AOPi but had a higher percentage of girls who did not return between Fall and Spring. Phi Mu, Pi Phi and AOPi are trending up with Pi Phi taking a slight lead of the three.

Continuing the above post: Alpha Phi, ADPi, and Theta are in a different position than the other 8 sororities. They will have the full advantage of variable quota with the ability to recruit 50 to 80 more members than the others. Alpha Phi has been trending up. The past two years they have had the strongest recruitment of the three and has slightly above average retention rate over the course of their chartering. Alpha Phi's GPA is currently the lowest of all the sororitys, but they are still in an upward trend.

Variable quota hasn't helped ADPi, they are barely maintaining their numbers from 3 years ago. They actually lost members from Fall 2015 to Fall 2016, although they did have a good retention number for academic year 2015-2016. They are bringing their GPA which is a good sign. ADPi is trending down.

Theta has struggled from the beginning. Some of their struggle aren't help by being constantly ranked bottom. The good news for Theta is they have brought their GPA up considerably. However they do have problems recruiting their allotted number, although their retention loss rate is only slightly higher than most of the other sorority and is considerably lower than Kappas. Theta is trending the same.

Obviously KD will stay the same. Kappa pi phi and Dg will for sure move up. Tri delt and Chi O will either move down or stay where they are. Phi mu will stay where they are or move down. Aopi will stay where they are or move down. Alpha phi is definitely on the rise. And then theta and adpi will most likely stay the same.

DG's last PC was very drab except for the cheerleaders. If they get a PC17 similar to PC16 Kappa will surely pass them.
