thoughts for an incoming freshman

by: Woah

What are your thoughts on ASA? I am an incoming freshman who doesn't want to live in a house and my sister is in it?

The best person to ask about ASA would be your sister. On this website you're gonna get a bunch of bs about the tier system. Unless that's what you're asking about, in which case no, they aren't the most popular, but none of the unhoused chapters are, and that's what you said you want. The girls I know in ASA are beautiful, smart, and love their sorority. If you want more specifics, ask your sister.

Every girl I have met in that chapter is nice, down to earth and genuine. If that's what you're looking for they've got it.

This statement is not true at all. I was at the SK presentation with our houses' Panhel rep. Their house will sleep 50-60 depending on which floor plan they choose. This way those who want to live out can. They are planning on having the sophomores and EC live in and then the rest of the rooms will be first come first served. The common area will hold the entire chapter so they can have chapter and meals together.

My sister is in ASA as well and I know from her that they're really cute and like to focus on getting good grades at the same time. Like any sorority though, you just have to make sure it is the right fit for you. I'd advise against waiting for Sigma Kappa because they're going to be so new and it won't gain much success until you're already graduated as it takes a sorority at least 5 years to make a name of themselves. As for unhoused sororities though, I'd say ASA is one of the best all around as they know how to balance partying and academic life.

ASA is only 4 years old and doing pretty well, so how is it going to take Sigma Kappa with a much larger national organization and local alumnae group 5 years to get it together? Sigma Kappa will have a house in less than two years of colonization, it was been talked about in an older thread. However, if her sister is in ASA, waiting for SK might cause hard feelings.

Regardless o localf alumni and all that it's still going to take any chapter a while to get it together.

The agreement SK and IU made calls for the land to be purchased once the new chapter is initiated and the house should break ground that summer or the following fall. They could move in as early as January 2017, but most likely August 2017. I am in a different chapter at IU but have kept up with the information because my step mom is an SK. She attended one of the alumnae meetings where it was discussed complete with timeline and there is another alumnae meeting this summer about it. I know that some chapters may not want them to get a house so quickly, but it's going to happen.

Really? You are advising someone to wait for a sorority with no members just bc they will build a house that she may never even live in? The OP said she doesn't want to live in a house.
My advice- go through recruitment and see what chapters fit you best. ASA is a good chapter, so is TPA. I personally really like both chapters. It may be a totally different chapter. With a colony you never know what you're going to get bc there's no existing sisters and alumnae are picking whoever. With an existing chapter you will have a good feel of who the chapter is and what they do and stand for. Make up your own mind and don't let Greek rank do it for you.

^^^what they said. Choose the chapter that is right for you, don't get caught up in the materialistic ways of sorority life.
