But the reason they didn’t want to join ASA is because of how other Greek organizations treat them. Like they are second class and they’re not. They need help and it’s not like they are stealing your PNMS anyway

We need to make change. Besides at this rate there will be no fraternities and the girls need to step up we need every chapter to do that

ok just saying when i had to go to asa during rush, we were put at a table with 6 girls and 2 actives. the 2 active didnt say one word and it was like pulling teeth trying to get them to speak. it got ot the point where the 6 of us were having our own conversation and they were just watching us. its not just the tier system, but they just dont know how to rush girls. sorry.

Lol it was definitely the other way around. PNMs act rude as soon as they walk in the door at ASA because they think they are “too good” for the chapter. Don’t you think it would be draining having to spend hours talking to people who treat you like you’re second class?

ASA national needs to step in and work with this chapter to learn why they weren't successful, and take steps to move the chapter forward. Panhel promoted going Greek for the last how many months. Tiers, pairs, ranks and all that aren't going to change. DPhiE worked very hard on getting better with recruitment and they found a housing situation to make up for that disadvantage. ASA needs to think about doing the same.

If ASA doesn't want a house, that's their prerogative, but you can't complain then that you're losing out on girls because you don't have a house. ASA needs to go out on campus and find the women that fit their niche and recruit them. Simple as that.

They do. They push informal hard every year. And it’s not their fault that they don’t have a house. They’ve tried and it’s nationals saying no to them

I have friends in ASA and we've talked about it. Their nationals are stupid and don't understand Greek life at IU. They have told them no house. They're used to having chapters at small po dunk colleges where every chapter is unhoused and has very small chapters. They don't understand how to help a chapter succeed at a huge school where having a house does matter. They don't seem to listen to the women either. It's ridiculous. Their nationals need to open their d--n eyes or all the work that went into recolonizing at IU will be for nothing.

To be technical, no one has houses at Penn State, they have dorm suites, which was definitely something that helped ASA. They do have housing at most of their chapters but it’s not necessarily the traditional type huge house like the ones here at IU. But knowing how to run a house like that is nothing they couldn’t get help with through national Panhel.

The actives need to go over their nationals’ head and start a fund for housing, kept by private alumnae not the chapter. They also need to say if they can’t get some satisfaction on this housing issue, a vote to close the chapter may be in order.

You’re basically saying is they can do what TPA did and make a stink of things and end up going back to being unhoused because of how expensive it is or just give up on the chapter

I see ASA coming up with solutions. Then someone comes on here and tears them down. Greek life is shrinking!! Do you want it to disappear?

Is a former teachers' college sorority that joined the NPC in the 1950s. Most of their chapters are at "directional" schools, and most of the housing they do have is residential-style. The only schools where they have remotely comparable purpose-built Greek housing are Delaware, Northern Illinois, and Missouri State.

^^^^^ This. If you want to help ASA help them get a private dorm wing/floor. Many schools work this way. They can all live together, have a common meeting space, etc. That's what most PNMs want.

My mom has mentioned IU used to have sororities with their own dorm floors (I believe SK was one of them) it was super unpopular with PNMs. It would need to be brand new or majorly renovated dorms.
One my sororities chapters (far from here) couldn’t get a house so they took over an entire apartment building (As it was being built) and the landlord turned one apartment on ground level in to a meeting area and living room and common kitchen , its gorgeous.....think outside the box is what they need to do (I’ve also heard when TPA was unhoused they lived in the same complex....since evidently it was way cheaper than a house they must have been living 2-3 girls per bedroom, otherwise how would it be cheaper! )

This is exactly what ASA needs to do but they need to get unified and just do it. They can’t wait for their nationals to fix it.

My mom was at IU in the 80s. Phi Mu lived in the Poplars Building behind Kirkwood and ADPi lived in Ashton when she went through recruitment. Sigma Kappa had a house which is now the office of admissions. Phi Mu built a house right after she pledged her sorority.

Then AXiD colonized and then they lived in Ashton. A couple of years later Tri Sigma colonized and lived in Ashton. Lastly ASA came to IU and lived in Ashton. AXiD took off. ASA didn't even make it 4 years before they closed. They closed because of low membership, no national support at all. They colonized then pulled out.

AXiD built next where they are now. Then SK build a new house where Pi Kappa are now. They built too big and they went bankrupt. Tri Sigma and SK closed the same year 1994. Then ADPi built that year where they are now.
