Do you have to know somebody to get a bid from frats this semester or does anyone have a chance?

You don’t have to know someone to get into a house but it will help especially since if you talk with a brother and you don’t get along, you can have someone in your corner. My suggestion is just be open, easy to talk to and talk about your interests hopefully that brother has the same ones.
