after you get a bid and join the sorority, do you move in? or do you wait until next semester?

What is the easiest way to get kicked out of recruitment or what should I avoid doing

By: Hey

Be polite to absolutely every chapter. If you think you are too good for certain chapters and are downright rude, you can get kicked. Do not talk to chapter members outside of recruitment. It can be dirty rushing. Hopefully up until this point you have not been going to frats and hooking up with guys or getting drunk. If you already have a reputation from your behavior first semester, you are probably already done.

You also have to visit every single chapter. If there's a particular house you don't want to go to during the round you're assigned to them, you have to go anyway. Not showing up to your rounds is a sure way to get booted by Panhel

Why/how are sororities ranked? Is their ranking really important for anything?

By: Pnm
by: Ranks R BSNov 10, 2018 11:47:32 AM

The ranks reference nothing more than social circle. If you are a pnm who values looks above all else and wants to party with only those that are considered the "top" frats, you may only be happy in one of the top 3 or 4 sororitys. If you are a pnm who is looking for sisterhood above all else and wants a balanced life with activities other than parties, involvement in other campus organizations, places a high value on academic performance, wants to social with a broad range of different types of people, you will be happy in mid or lower tier chapters. There are beautiful interesting women in every single chapter. It is not exclusive to the "top" few. Best advice going into recruitment is to ignore tiers and give every single chapter a chance. See who you click with the most.

The claim that women in “top” houses only care about looks and partying is baseless and untrue. The majority of chapters on this campus take around 50 women each year and there is variation within every pledge class. There are women in EVERY chapter who prioritize academics, are involved on campus, and value sisterhood. There are also women in every chapter who value social status and appearances. My advice is to not be consumed by rankings, rumors, and stereotypes and instead go through recruitment with an open mind. Every chapter on this campus has something unique to offer and you really can’t go wrong choosing any of them.

What are frat pairings?

By: Pnm
by: PairsNov 10, 2018 11:51:16 AM

Fraternities and sororities match up for events like Homecoming and Little 5, meaning they have parties before the event and work together during that time. The pairs switch up from year to year. The frat that you are paired with simply means you will be spending time together and getting to know one another.

try not to talk about boys or frats to girls during recruitment, generally frowned upon

Do letters of recommendation matter?

By: pnm
by: NopeDec 4, 2018 4:10:34 PM

Letters of rec mean nothing at all. Don’t even both with them. Being a legacy helps slightly more but is still pretty irrelevant in how chapters choose their members

Each sorority has their own membership selection process. Some may factor in recommendation letters at various points in the process.

Hi!! There are sororities who hold informal recruitment following formal. As far as I know it’s just ASA and DPhi. But she can still join a chapter or wait until next year and probably be fine!

there is no guarantee but you should have her talk to your rho gam ASAP and she may be able to help her still get registered for this recruitment process.

Above people are both wrong. If she didn't sign up bc she simply forgot there is a 0% chance she gets to go through formal recruitment. asa tpa dphie and sk all do open informal every single semester and have since they all rechartered not just asa and dphie. Unless she knows people in other houses that will invite her to informal at their house these will be her 4 options.

^TPA did not do informal last spring after formal recruitment, neither did SK. However, DphiE, ASA, and AGD did. In the fall, DphiE, ASA, SK and TPA all did informal.
