recolonize

by: Delta Gamma

Would anyone be interested in recolonizing delta gamma? How could I get that going? I see a need for it because over 1000 girls signed up for recruitment this year and only 736 found their home so why not add another chapter? I only see panhellenic at ucf growing in terms of enrollment.

Not sure where everyone is getting the number "over 1,000" because a little over 900 girls signed up. Didn't even reach 950. And many girls drop out rather than getting dropped from every sorority.

You must not be in greek life to understand that you just don't bring a sorority onto campus like that, it doesn't work like fraternities do. Last year Panhellenic Council, including all 12 chapters, took a vote to let other sororities put a bid on colonizing at our school. The vote lost 10-2, meaning 10 chapters didn't want another sorority being colonized. For a sorority to come to campus the Panhellenic Council must open to bids from sororities, meaning all the sororities we don't have at UCF are notified that we are looking to colonize. A few sororities that are interested in having a chapter at UCF get back to OFSL, and then they have a powerpoint presentation to convince OFSL why they're sorority will be a good fit on our campus. Ultimately OFSL has the final say in which sorority can colonize. Then Representatives from the sororities' Nationals come to campus and open up after a formal recruitment to girls who are interested in joining, and they need about 150 girls (average # of girls in each chapter at UCF) to join for the colonization to be successful. A student is never involved in bringing a new chapter into the Council.

Fraternities work the exact same way pan works. You can’t just start to colonize a chapter you need approval from OFSL, UCF, the IFC community., and there’s a long application process that also includes a presentation.

Total, or the median number of members in each has been established and is somewhat less than what it has been in the past. That means that each sorority has had to redo their budgets. If "total" is reduced again, then dues will have to increase and then less women can afford membership.
Now is not the time for expansion at UCF.
