pike house

by: Wondering

Just curious, does Pike have any plans to build a new house or move closer to campus?

Yes. I know for a fact their alumni are evaluating their housing situation rigjt now. Pike alumni own their house free and clear of any debt. That includes the ground and improvements. The university has told Pike they have a lot they can let them build on on the main row but they are hesitant because it would be a land lease like sigma chi and Sig Ep. Their house is actually very valuable due to its adjacency to the medical center. If pike sold it they could build a beautiful house on the row. But I think they will end up completely remodleing and building a second story. They are one of a very few houses that have multiple options. Also Pike used to have two houses they called them pike main and pike north. North is the house they are in now and main was the building that is a dorm across the street from alpha phi. Two freakin houses.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a big decision for Pike but I agree that remodeling and adding another story is the way to go.

One small correction, Pike didn't actually have two houses at the same time, ever. Pike moved out of "Pike North" (current house) in the late 90s because it was nearly condemned and the chapter had the opportunity to lease the building that is now Pima Hall.

Pima Hall used to be the Teke house. TKE financed and built the house, the UofA owned the land. Note the 5 triangles on the front of Pima Hall, those are TKE symbols. Anyway, when Teke got kicked off, Pike took over the house and their "North" house sat vacant for a little while, then was rented out to fraternities after my time (Sigma Pi and PiKapp?). When Pike got kicked out of IFC, TKE sold the building to the school, which already owned the land. Pike moved back into their original Pike North house when they recolonized.

But the TKE house is a good example of how advantageous it is for fraternities to own both their building and land.

Pikes actually lived in the Drachman/Cherry house from 98-03, which was after leaving the Pima Dorm house and prior to them being kicked off. Once they got kicked off they leased it to Sigma Pi up until 09', which is when Pike came back to campus. So it was only dormant for about 2-3 years when they lived in the TKE house/Pima Dorm.

The school likes the frats to build on their land because it is easier to keep control of them.

Pike, AEPI, Sig-Ep, Lamda Chi, Pi Kapp and Sigma Nu all used to be in the back. Sadly it is now down to three.

Yes. They were all torn down after the university bought them out. Each chapter sold them when their fraternity was kicked off campus with the exception of Delt who moved into the ATO house. The Pike house is owned by its alumni. They have no debt and have not let the university push them around in selling it to them. I know this because my older brother was a Pike here.
