gpa/lower tier houses

by: ?

why are lower houses more likely to take a girl with a lower gpa then a top tier? why is having a 3.0 so important it should matter if you are good looking, social, care about the sisterhood and what the sorority has to offer.

Grades are important. Sororities want to be able to maintain a good gpa. When there are over a thousand girls going through rush that are almost ALL pretty, social, and want sisterhood, the easiest way to make cuts is by grades.

You have a semester before you rush. Get good grades so this won't be an issue.

As for why lower tier houses take more grade risks than others, it's because they don't have as many options with PNMs as the more desirable houses have.

Also, I'd beg to differ that looks are more important than grades. And I'm in a house that people think values looks more than anything. It's not true. We want smart girls who care about school. You're here to get an education first and foremost. Everything else (joining a sorority) is just secondary.

I've been doing very well, but still won't have a 3.0 by the end of the year. I'm open to joining any house. Being in a sorority is really important to me, I just want to at least get a bid to one of them because I know which ever one I get a bid too I will end up loving in the end. Is it uncommon to not get a bid?

You'll be okay. You sound A LOT how I felt before I rushed. (I had a 2.7) You definitely have the right attitude. It's good to be open minded. Even girls with above average GPAs should be open to every single house. All I wanted before rush was to be in a sorority but I was so nervous about being cut everywhere. Honestly, it really doesn't happen that much. If you really truly are open to joining any house then you'll be fine.

If you have other things going for you, i.e. you're good looking, can hold a conversation, I would be shocked if you didn't receive a bid. Usually the only girls who don't get bids at all are heinous looking girls who don't talk during rush AND have bad grades.

If you want to better your chances, get recs.

sorry but if you don't have a 3.0 or higher, you're not college material, not at UA or any other school. That's really weak.

Lots of people have bad grades in high school but do fine in college. I struggled in high school but I thrived in college. I had a 2.6 coming into college but am doing just fine now.

If you have a low GPA in HS then that is why you are going to a school like Arizona. If you can not maintain at least the bare minimum of a 3,0 in college than something is wrong, IMO. Arizona is not a top tier difficult school, get real.

there are almost 2,000 PNM's going through recruitment. 80% of them have above a 3.0, involved, beautiful. Then you have to release women. How do you choose?GPA is the easiest way to do it. 'top tier' get the cream of the crop taking the women with the 3.0's, involved, beautiful and those women want the top tiers. The girls with less then a 3.0 are then released from the 'top tiers' and only have the 'lower houses' left. its important to have a 3.0 so that your competitive with all the other girls going through recruitment.
