how important are grades when rushing?

by: futurewildcat

Hi there! Will be attending U of A in the fall and plan on rushing... how big of a deal are grades? I have well above a 4.0 GPA so I'm hoping this would help me in terms of bids, but does it really matter? Some of my friends told me it doesn't... just wondering!

the higher your gpa the less likely you are to be dropped from a house, but your gpa alone doesn't guarantee a bid into every house

Do not use your honors weighted GPA, no one outside of high school really cares that you took honors classes and the IFC judges it off your unweighted.

I'm not sure if you're rushing a frat or sorority, but my frat would make certain GPA cuts the first few days. 2.75 from high school was the min to rush and we would make cuts at like 2.8 for day one, 2.85 day two. Kind of depends on what the average grades are of kids rushing. But if you're above a 3 unweighted you probably wont get cut for grades.

Also lets say you made it through the first few days without anyone flagging you as really weird. If you had something like a 3.8-4.0 unweighted we'd probably offer a bid unless something really glaring came up during the last set.
