here is why middle tiers are middle tiers:

The representation of each sorority is based on the girls that wear the sorority shirts, backpacks, etc. There are so many girls you don't see ever wearing letters, that add to the house but don't really associate. And then there are girls that are always around the house, always wearing letters, and are literally the ones that the other girls are embarrassed of. Fraternities are always surprised to hear that decent looking girls are in middle tier because they see weirder looking girls walking around campus.

I think AXO does a really good job of this. Usually the cute, small, and trendy ones are wearing the letters. However, visiting the AXO house is another story.
