is greek life big here?
by: AnonymousHey, I've heard that greek life isn't really a big deal in canada and frats are kinda hard to find, it sorta bums me out cos I was looking forward to joining being a part of greek life. Is this true, is greek life not a big thing in canada?

Greek life isn't big in Canada, but it's big in Ottawa. We have one of the biggest Greek systems in the country (probably top 3 behind UBC and Western). I would definitely recommend checking out Sigma Chi or Sigma Alpha Mu if you're a guy; check out Alpha Phi, Tri Delta, Nu Sigma Pi or Xi Delta Theta if you're a girl. Best of luck!

VERY common in frats, non existent in international sororities and very common with local sororities. Can give more details if you're in a frat vs sorority.

I wouldn't say Greek life is obsolete in Canada - in fact, Greek life expanding across the countries. While I have my own opinions about local sororities and fraternities, the truth is that a bunch have popped up over the past decade and this shows there increasing interest in being Greek. I don't see those numbers dropping anytime soon, and internationals are paying attention. In the past 5 years, uOttawa and Carleton each added another NPC and Carleton also has a new international fraternity. That's more than what happened in the decade prior. So no, I don't think Greek life is obsolete in Canada.

This i would really not recommend a sorority outside of those two, they technically are clubs and not real sororities, definitely educate yourselves before going into recruitment!

Only locals can take sisters from another sorority and change their letters LMAO and this is why you are clubs

Thanks for the reply, I'm looking forward to hopefully attending. Do you know if hazing is common? So apart from these 3 colleges is it fair to say Greek life is obsolete in canada? :(
