should i rush (as a junior?)

by: What to do

Hey! So I'm about to enter my Junior year at UT and have always been curious about Greek life on campus. I transferred after my freshman year and couldn't rush as a sophomore because I missed the deadline so I'm curious about my chances now as a junior. I'm open-minded about the process, have a 3.7 GPA and have been incredibly involved at UT in the one year I've been here. Thoughts?

Also, I'm a girl and I'm incredibly aware of how difficult it is to rush sororities not being a freshman. Just wanted some opinions!

Will be hard. The GPA will help though. Try, but be prepared for heavy cuts.

You have very little chance unless you know a whole lot of members in one sorority and are real friends with them. Random junior though? No.

You could always try SDT they are small and don't have a house and they will pretty much take anyone to get their numbers up.

This. Don't bother rushing unless you have literally 10+ friends in multiple houses who can pull for you, or if you're a super super involved leader on campus.

IMO, it's impossible without major connections.

Advice, Are you saying this because she's a junior or is this true for freshmen and sophomores also?

My advice would be the same for sophomores & juniors.

I thought Rush was a time to meet girls and find a house that fit. There are girls from out of state and small towns who don't know 10+ already. Joining a house where everyone already knows each other seems like high school. I hope this is only true for some and not most.

This is UT- it's all about connections. If you don't have girls pulling for you, you're going to get cut.

If you're going through rush and don't have any connections- especially for upperclassmen where there technically is a quota but houses don't have to take any if they don't want to- you need to be ok accepting a bid from every house, even SDT or AZD.

OOS girls who have successful rushes tend to already know girls from Texas camps, be legacies, be from highly influential families, or have a stop-you-in-your-tracks resume & looks. Small town girls tend to have camp connections. This is for the top 10 houses. The bottom houses are where girls with no connections end up most of the time.

You really won't have to worry about joining a sorority where everyone knows each other already since those sororities aren't going to be interested in you. You're going to be limited to the few sororities that are more open to PNMs from other places.

Focus on the chapters where you don't need connections. They are more welcoming and have a more diverse grown up culture.

You still need recs though. They all cut (except for SDT)

Haha I'm gonna go through rush anyway as an OOS student who knows no one. I really don't care what happens though because I've been reading these posts and tbh they make Greek life sound like a nightmare. I would be honored and really enjoy being a part of the bottom "grown up and welcoming" sororities. You sororitys think you're superior than others but imo y'all sound horrible. Truth.

You seem like you belong in one of the loser sororities. Have fun!

No hate ladies. Panhellenic love is best for all. Let's support each other and have a strong Greek system and empower women. Cutting down each other only hurts everyone. When we have a strong system, everyone finds their perfect house and our system is another strong part of campus.
