How bad would it be to do formal recruitment as a sophomore

Not bad at all. You can definitely still get into a house you like as a sophomore but I’d emphasize the importance of making friends in chapters you’re interested in as much as possible. Realistically you may get more cuts than a freshman but you truly don’t know until you try.

What sororities take sophomores and how many do they typically take?

Every single sorority on this campus has taken sophomores. They don’t have a quota for these kinds of things lol

every chapter has taken at least one sophomore/junior here or there (depending on connections and their usual criteria). it depends on what the balance they have in sophomores/juniors/seniors. like a decade ago skrappa took like 12 sophomores but usually there's 1 to 7ish sophomores per formal rush pc for most chapters. really just depends on the year though. also transfers don't get dinged the same way

When sophs join are they only allowed to interact with the freshman pc's?

no, most sophs who join are usually already friends with the sophs in the chapter, so they end up hanging out with other sophs, not freshmen

would you have to live in the house as a junior?

depends on the size of the house and the pledge class. it's not bad to live in as a junior though i know juniors who liked it

i think most of the sophomores i knew were more committed and wanted to get the most out of it tbh. compared to freshmen they've had an extra year to figure out what they really want and who they are and how to survive college. obviously just depends on the person though lol
