SigEp is committed to being a different kind of student organization – one that recognizes the importance of the out-of-classroom experience and is committed to making that experience the safest and most empowering part of a college student's life. SigEp is unique in that our organization and all events are substance free by choice and we respect everyone's pronouns. The members feel that the personhood we are constantly striving to build does not require alcohol to exist. The chapter also works to encourage other student organizations toward eradicating dangerous, illegal alcohol consumption and policing microaggressions and toxic masculinity.

Fraternities as they exist now are facing a crisis. Only 11% of students come to our school interested in joining a fraternity. This declining interest has coincided with the fact that members of fraternities are far more likely to drink in excess than the average student. Because our SigEp chapter has a substance-free policy, we recruit better candidates and have stronger manpower than other fraternities chapters that are regrettably still beholden to illegal and dangerous drinking. SigEp is modeling a new way and new future for other fraternities to follow.

Our substance-free facility is certainly cleaner and smells nicer than a stereotypical frat house that is regularly used for parties. Our clean house is more desirable for hosting faculty, friends, and parents. Our friends and girlfriends love spending time here and studying here because they feel comfortable and safe. We have regular moms' brunches and dads' cookouts here because we’re proud to show off our house.

From what I heard from guys at other schools is that dry Sig Ep houses are becoming too weak and too woke. Quality guys that would rush in the past are looking at Sig Ep as a service and academic club rather then a social fraternity. It's sad, but their Balance Man Program is hurting their chapters instead of making them strong. So many chapters either disaffiliated or surrendered their charters

The vast majority of students coming here do not want to join Greek life. In other words, harmful stereotypes about fraternities as drinking clubs harm recruitment. At SigEp, our substance-free fraternity is a differentiating factor and is a huge competitive advantage. Our substance-free fraternity provides a support system for doing what students actually want from their college experience.
