stat ranking discussion (fall 2017)

by: xoxo

From my perspective:

APhi
SK

Chi O/ADPi
KKG

AEPhi/KD
Pi Phi

SDT
Phi Sig

I’ll leave Theta out for now, but their placement/opinions can be left in the comments.

I’m also not sure if I dropped Kappa too far? Seems like they could fit on the same line as Chi O and ADPi, but I hesitate to put them above there.

true middle:

lower middle:
pi phi/aephi

bottom:
sdt/theta/phi sig

Overall, the biggest discussion comes from the middle tiers, because those are the chapters fighting to go higher and make sure they don't fall lower. It may be nitpicking to divide the middle tier into 3 subcategories, but obviously kappa, kd, and pi phi are all very different. I also didn't rank within the tiers because A. it's literally two chapters, and B. they're all pretty different/up to personal preference so you decide which one you think is higher (my picks would be APhi, Chi O, ADPi, Pi Phi, and Theta for the winner of each). Again, this is just a real oversimplification of the tiers, so feel free to disagree.

I wouldn't put kkg that high to be perfectly honest, and I'd put adpi above kd- adpi & chi o are about even, take your pick depending on if you want sisterhood or parties. Both have always been middle to upper middle, kd's pretty average overall & haven't seemed to have found a distinctive identity imo. I don't mean that in a bad way, they just haven't gotten there. I'd put chi o over kkg- chi o does have weak sisterhood but at least they're smart & care about philanthropies. KKG just parties a lot, that's about it. Honestly I think a lot of the middle or possibly even lower tier chapters are better than kkg because they're on average classier, smarter & more put together. I'm not trying to hate on them but lets be honest, you can only cling onto your glory days & former reputation for so long. It's almost 2018, kkg hasn't been top for several years, so putting them so high is just inaccurate

given that @very simple ranks two per category (three in the bottom) would you change it to this?:

top:
Alpha Phi/Sigma Kappa

top middle:
Chi O/ADPi

middle:
KD/Pi Phi

lower middle:
Aephi/Kappa

bottom:
SDT/Theta/Phi Sig

with maybe Kappa and AEPhi on their own level because they recruit really similar girls?

Overall this list isn't an awful ranking, but the middle tier isn't accurate imo. KKG's def not top anymore & aren't on par with chi o. They're middle at best, but I prob wouldn't put them there since the other middle tier chapters are better overall. KKG's way more social, but that's about all they got going for them atm. KD's improved a lot, but idk if I'd put them tied with adpi. They're getting there, but adpi's still the better house in terms of academics, presence & leadership stuff. Adpi also isn't very social so they could work on that, although they've always been that way. KD's kinda average overall, certainly not a bad house but they don't really excel in any particular area. I'd put phi sig above theta, they have great sisterhood & do their own thing so they seem to get along with everybody. Phi sig has the advantage of not being a new chapter, whereas a new chapter like theta has to worry about meeting quota & that stuff. Just my .02

Kappa is definitely mid tier, and tbh I'd put them equal to AEPhi - they can duke it out for their party girls all they want, they just don't pull from the same pool of PNMs as the rest of the chapters. For the other mid-tiers, I'd say Chi O is top of the mid because they have the academics, the involvement, and the social life (but are lacking in sisterhood) while ADPi has equal involvement and academics with the addition of sisterhood (all really similar types of girls) but no social life. KD by comparison has a strong social life and a good balance of sisterhood/diversity from ADPi and Chi O respectively, but lacks the punch the other two pack for academics and involvement (they're not bad but just not "5-time Panhel president" involved). The overarching theme, though, is that all three solidly middle tier chapters offer a well rounded experience, but just lack that final thing that would push them into the top tier. If you add the best parts of each chapter together to make one sorority, that would definitely be a top chapter. They're all great and would be wonderful choices for any PNM.

Eh I disagree w KKG being mid tier. Tbh they're kind of in their own league; yes they still have somewhat of a presence & people do party with them, but they're far from well-rounded (though they seem to be trying to fix that which is good) & they're not that involved in the greek community here. A lot of the conventionally lower-tiered chapters have better sisterhood, haven't had the same problems w membership or stuff like that, & are considerably more well-rounded, so honestly I don't see why kkg would be ranked above them. Yes they tend to recruit attractive party girls, but looks aren't everything & if that's all you have then idk why you'd be ranked higher than chapters that are considerably more well-rounded. KKG's declined in recent years, but aren't totally irrelevant or underground so that's why a lot of people don't know where to place them.
