letters of recommendation

I'm a freshman girl this upcoming year and I was wondering how crucial and important it is to have letters of recommendation for each sorority. Does it really help you get a bid that much or is it not that necessary? I've been getting mixed answers from people.

useless unless you're a legacy and with legacy status, that'll get you past the first round most of the time. Seriously, we're a big ten school not SEC.

Doesn't make or break you necessarily, but just know there is a big system behind the scenes and you filling one out puts you ahead in that system. I would just do houses you are really interested in

Why would you not get recs? The best houses want to see them and they are the only way you can have someone provide additional information about you other than the official registration form. I understand that there are a lot of houses here and that most women will find their way into one, but if you want to get into a decent house you'd better have a rec.

Don't listen; I got into a "top house" without a single letter of rec. Much more emphasis is placed on how well you present yourself, who you end up talking to, and sometimes luck.
