The truth is, when it comes to sororities, the best girls are in the best houses. That's just how formal rush works, coupled with the fact that sororities don't get hazed.
When it comes to frats, there are quality guys in the top tier all the way down to the middle tiers. Why? First, because there are always guys that don't have the time commitment to deal with a top house's pledge-ship, so they end up joining a middle tier house or SigEp. In addition, fraternities do informal rush, so plenty of awesome guys just join the house that they have older friends in.
It's sad that this is the way it is, but better girls are in the top houses while for guys the house he's in matters a lot less as long as its not a bottom house.

You're totally right. There are plenty of dope ass kids who could have gotten bids at top houses in middle tier houses, but they only rushed the middle tier house because they had a friend in it.
Girls are literally forced to see every house, so if they are in a lower house you know its because they got rejected by the top houses.

I think that for guys, it is less about status and more about where you feel comfortable. I might even say that some of the smaller houses have the best brotherhoods, because the guys obviously don't join for status or to hang with particular sororities.
Finally, remember that we are all at UofI, so that alone puts us ahead of most other people.

There's obviously good guys down to the so-called "middle tier" because that "middle tier" is really the top tier of about 40 fraternities some of them aren't even listed on Greek rank and are simply put as "the rest" aka other 15. If you did that with girls there'd be 5 sororities and then "the rest". You're not wrong about there being quality guys down to the "middle", but when you say middle, a frat like phi delt or phi psi comes to mind and they are often ranked in the top ten.
