just dropped sorority rush and need help
by: SadHi everyone I just dropped sorority recruitment today. I got cut by all but one house and I know I wouldn't fit in in the one I got back so I dropped. I honestly just need help on where to go from here. I don't understand how I was cut from so many houses. I had letters of rec and didn't get invited back to even first invite for some of them. I always walked out of a house feeling pretty good about how it went only to get cut. I'm not drop dead gorgeous but I'm reasonably attractive and am very social. I just don't know what went wrong and I'm completely devastated. I've been looking forward to being in a sorority for over a year and to have this happen... I have no words. What options do I have now? I can't even imagine going through all this again as a sophomore and having to wait a year to do it :(

There are over 100 women in each house, if you can't find a group of friends in every house than maybe that's what went wrong. If you can't see yourself fitting into the one house that wanted you, then how can you blame the other houses for thinking you weren't a good fit there? It goes both ways.
#4by: I get it...
If you really didn't see yourself in the house that asked you back then you did the right thing....hopefully it wasn't because they weren't a "top house". That being said keep an open mind for spring rush and next year. Get to know the girls in the houses and hopefully things will turn out okay. If someone offers you a snap bid consider it and be happy that they thought of you. Good luck!

Now that you have gone through it you know you need to keep a very open mind!!
It's a mutual selection and YOU need to be receptive to houses that want you back and see you as a sister and a fit!
If you all had an open mind you would all be participating in bid day today.
Register for COB and remember you don't want to be in a group that doesn't see you as a fit, if you are invited take the opportunity to learn about sisterhoods. All UI sororities are great and it's a lifetime not 4 year so!!

For most houses, it's not a beauty contest and every house has shy girls so being super social isn't all that important everywhere either. A few reasons why you may have not had many choices....
Grades....if you don't have a great high school records, you'll get cut.
Nice....were you nice in EVERY house you went in? Girls are friends with girls in other houses and they will talk. Gamma chis are watching too. Word gets around.
Maximizing options.....it's not that hard to get invited back to "top" houses for first invite, then most houses cut like crazy after that. You may have put some middle or lower houses at the bottom after open house so they're gone by first invite and those may have been a great fit for you. When I rushed I put Theta and Tri-delt at the bottom of my list. I just knew it was not a fit for me and it would be dumb of me to put them at the top just because they are "popular".

The reality is lots of great girls fall through the cracks and end up no where. Try to get to know girls in some houses and maybe you'll find a group that will invite you to informal recruitment. Are you from Illinois? Do you already have some connections? They can hurt or help. In the mean time, keep your grades up and join other clubs. There's plenty to do besides Greek life. It's worth trying again next year!!! There are a lot of sophomore pledges!!!
