FRATERNITY REPORT 2023

by: FSA & IFC

SIGMA NU
- SNU has seen a meteoric rise in the past year. They managed to recruit a class of social and fun guys that have bolstered their socials and relations very well. They operate very much like a Southern fraternity, as they are one of the biggest national fraternity’s with prominent chapters in the South. Their sorority relations have exponentially increased and have notable socials like their Darty and Christmas party. Their house is big and very nice but in possibly the worst location on campus. They are very academically successful, however this does not help their image as their older classes are comprised of nerdy and awkward types. They maintain a decent bar pull. Overall, SNU has a lot of potential to increase their status and are in a very good position compared to previous years.
PHI GAMMA DELTA
- Fiji is known mostly for having very good social events and parties. They have growing sorority relations and solid relationships with reputable houses on campus. Their bar pull is nothing special, but not bad in general. Fiji is also a proponent of joint parties that gives them a party house image. They also maintain good grades and have this semester’s highest fraternity GPA. Fiji’s biggest weakness is their recruitment, which often takes members rejected from other houses. They are very inconsistent in who they recruit and often get members of the creepy and weird variety. Their chapter house is also a literal Special Education building. Overall, Fiji is a solid frat at Illinois that does everything somewhat well.
DELTA CHI
- DChi is what many consider to be the start of the “Mid house” category. They have sporadic recruitment, somewhat good bar pull, and few sorority relations. The sororities they do have connections with are strong though. Their house is nice and in a good spot, but this only really helps them during rush, which is when they have their best socials. DChi was unknown this past year, and it marks a very strong shift from the last two years where they had a better reputation. One strong part of DChi is their alumni connections, which are beneficial and prevalent among their members. Overall DChi is not a bad frat, but just mediocre in general.
PHI DELTA THETA
- Phi Delt has fallen significantly from their past status and continues to drop. They recruited a small 26’s class that does not help their growth. Their older classes have good relations with a couple sororities, but that is the extent of their sorority connections. Their socials are essentially none, except for their date events. Their bar pull is subpar but not nonexistent. It also doesn’t help them to have IFC sanctions for hazing either. Their house is very nice and in a good location though. Phi Delt is synonymous with the University and have strong roots and history, giving them the reputation they have. Overall, Phi Delt is a shrinking chapter that may be on its last legs. Good recruitment and more social expansion can help rehabilitate them.
