internals of the block process?

Hey yall i recently transferred to u of i from another big greek school but i have never heard of block.

1) What activities does block exactly consist of?
2) How exactly does this block process work?
3) When do fraternities ask sororities to block?
4) How do they ask to block?
5) Which positions contact each other for these proposals?
6) How do fraternities know sororities have picked them?
7) Is there formal documentation?

Sry for being a noob im curious.

2. its not a process
3. fall block askings are before the spring
4. songs, dance, food, or any other creative way
5. usually social chairs or anyone you know in the houses
6. sororities tell them
