SMU Fall Recruitment
by: PersonThere are rumblings that SMU will have fall recruitment from now on starting this coming fall. I doubt it'll affect rankings and such, but it could be a net positive for campus potentially.

I don't think it's a good move at all.
All it's going to do is give a higher priority to legacies and freshmen won't have a full semester to see which house is going to be a good fit for them. I went to my dad's frat's events a few times, but I realized halfway through the fall that it was going to be a terrible fit for me so I went somewhere else. If I did Fall rush, I would have joined that house and had a very negative experience with Greek Life.
From an organizational standpoint, lots of freshmen will make big mistakes with their new found freedom of being in college in their first semester. Spring rush allows houses to check this stuff early so they don't recruit people who will destroy their reputation.
I just see the potential for lots of liabilities and students being more likely to regret the houses they choose.

That is true, but considering the environment of SMU, most girls have a general idea of what house they want to get into even before they get to campus. I know that there will be info sessions for seniors going into the uni and local alumni panhel councils will host events so PNMs can get a feel for each sorority.
I also heard they might do this because of SMU's move to the ACC, as most of those campuses have fall recruitment.
