erin andrews, hulk hogan.... & kappa seniors

by: Cedes

Doubtful that a room full of actives knowingly danced around in this fashion if any of them had the slightest inkling that there were security cameras in the room they were filmed. There would definitely be some upperclassmen who held office who knew about them and their operating function if they were there prior to bid night. While this is definitely hazing, secret videotapes are a far worse offense under the law, and somebody could not be only looking at civil suits, but Dallas PD could press charges on those who placed the cameras. This is looking really bad for Kappa nationals, and if the house mom and the nationals colluded to secretly record them.... well, we all know how that ended for Gawker and Marriott Hotels.

Why would nationals or anyone want to hurt one of their own

Possible hazing from years past had been reported to them, and they wanted to "catch them in the act" per se, so they could address their behavior and lower their risk exposure. If nationals believes that hazing is happening, it is in their best interest to put a stop to it by whatever means necessary so they don't face lawsuits from new members or university sanctions. However, they went about catching them in a really bad and likely illegal way that has now created more issues for them. I understand that some Kappa parents are asking that Dallas PD open an investigation on who placed the camera. If that happens and was done without the knowledge of members, that is definitely criminal.

Nationals don't let hazing happen just so they can catch them. The cameras were already there. The dumb seniors were too dumb and drunk to think about them.

Seriously, they were just that stupid. They didn't ever consider the cameras would be looked at. They did it before. They thought it was no big deal. The cameras were not a secret.

It was an activity designed to make new members feel uncomfortable.

It wasn't just the new members who have 4 years to think about their chance to dance naked in front of everyone. It was the seniors, especially one who did not want to take her clothes off and felt she had to,and now there's a video out there. Lucky her

This happened on bid day, and anyone who has actually been greek knows that this is a day of excitement and making new members feel welcome, so I'm not buying the sisters wanting to haze on that day of all days. And by the time you are a senior sister, being forced, or "hazed" into doing anything you don't want to do is not the way that stuff goes down - talked into it yes, because it's your last time before graduation and 'let's all do it together' and 'we're collecting phones so don't worry about it getting out' kind of thing yeah I can see that. In that situation there is a huge TRUST issue where you feel safe within your sisterhood at your own chapter house. And then were betrayed by an insider (not an active sister or new member) who held her own place of trust with them. Even if they knew the camera was in place it obviously never dawned on them that this person would violate the trust they had in her. Alcohol consumption in the house and any actual proven hazing, yep, problem right there for breaking Rules, but if of drinking age not any breaking of Laws. But covertly taping people and threatening to make it public moves beyond disciplinary action and right into law breaking on many levels. Their nationals bungled this; so many better ways they could have disciplined the chapter if they had thought this through.

You are just getting the story of one girl who's pissed she got kicked out and is now grabbing for money. The truth will really come out if this goes to court and it will be hilarious.

All sorority houses prohibit alcohol in the house, so even if they were legal age, they were breaking sorority rules.
