most sororities have a dry pledge period -so that means no drinking or even going out for the 6 weeks until you're initiated. a couple sororities such as a chi o and kappa delta didn't do this, so their pledges could still go out. but this was seen as a way to get more girls to go for them than anything else as they needed the numbers. occasionally there would be an event such as boys bid day where a new pc would be allowed to go to the party, but not drink-i think phi mu and maybe zeta did this as a "treat" for their new members?
