This administration is doing everything in their power to kill off greek life. It’s embarrassing looking around at what other schools can do with ours holdong us back. They hold double standards by those who should actually kick off but will kick off or sanction those who truly are helping utk’s rep. It’s embarrassing and this **** will die out within 10 years thanks to Amanda and those clowns in administration
The sorority village houses are amazing. Great Greek life!
The best thing about greek life at Tennessee is the "pan love". Everyone supports each other and socializes together. Theres never a chill night in Knoxville. The only thing that sucks is that the new administration apparently hates the frats and puts them all on probation.
great greek scene. Hard to get by if you don't go greek
UT Greek lift Gets compared to Alabama too much. Compared to other schools Tennessees Greek system is incredible. Can't beat the SEC!! Go vols !!
UT administration is basically kicking off any fraternities with decent membership numbers who are what you think of when you think of college frats. It's a dry campus and although you can get away with drinking in the fraternity houses on game days (the one's that are left), it's not what it once was. Most SEC fraternties can party and throw parties in their houses without any problems, here it's all been moved to off campus houses. Guys tend to be really douche bags and judge you based on what sorority you are in even if they see you clearly don't fit the stereotype of your particular house. There's only 3 bars really left on the strip and only one if you're under 21 but have an ok fake. Sorority houses are beautiful but they are super inconveniently located. I think Greek life will die and it will go underground, which is really tragic and not what I expected or wanted out of my experience. UT is still awesome but it's lost most of the things that made it a great party school.
I think roughly 20% of students at UT are Greek, which makes it a fairly large presence. The Greek houses aren't great compared to some other SEC schools but are much better than your average small colleges. (Sorority village definetly has nicer/newer houses than Fraternity park which is very old) While UT on the record is a dry campus, most fraternities will additionally have houses in the nearby fort sanders in order to have house parties without having to risk getting in trouble. (although many frats still have parties at their houses on frat row) Both sororities and fraternities typically will rent out bars or clubs in Knoxville or the strip to have date parties, mixers, formats, and swaps. (All in all, UT is your average large state school that likes to party) Greeks are involved on campus but not as involved as some schools where it dictates the University (such as an Ole Miss or Alabama) For Attractiveness, the Greeks are hot. Plain and simple. Slightly more females than males in Greek life. They've really cracked down on hazing lately, and it seems like a new fraternity is in trouble ever other month. Hazing is still prevalent, but it's pretty average and it is declining somewhat. Lastly, there are many sororities and fraternities here at UT, so many to choose from.
Overall, Greek life is definitely a big part of UT, as it is any other major University.
