What are the real sorority rankings here? Top tier? Mid Tier? Bottom Tier?

Because there are only 3 sororities on campus there isn't really a tier system. Each one has something different to offer.
Delta Zeta: Often seen as the pretty girls on campus, very involved.
Sigma Sigma Sigma: Often seen as the crazy girls, strong sisterhood. Also very involved.
Alpha Sigma: Is a local sorority that has been on campus for a very long time. Because they do not have a nationals they don't have a lot of rules, which can be good and bad.

Wait, so Tri-Sigma and Delta Zeta are all very involved but Alpha Sigma isn't? That's a false statement. It's also extremely untrue that Alpha "doesn't have a lot of rules". We not only govern ourselves as a chapter but our alumni is very involved in our decision making. We have just as many, if not more, rules just like the other sororities on campus.

If you are going through recruitment this fall you want a bid from Delta Zeta or Tri Sigma. Simple as that. Depending on what your looking for one of these sororities will have what you're looking for. Alpha Sigma is okay if you are looking for a local sorority which is an organization with no national backing and only having alum in the Wisconsin area vs the national sororities (DZ and Tri Sigma) having extensive national programming and on going support as well as hundreds of chapters across the country. There are multi cultural and NPC (historically black) sororities on campus as well.

While being in a national sorority can be great if you want to travel a lot after college so you can have connections no matter where you go. However Alpha Sigma has chosen to stay local for a few reasons but mostly because we can tailor our sorority to what our chapter needs. We get to be apart of our own rule making process that helps our members become leaders. Also this past semester we had a higher chapter gpa compared to all sororities on campus. We also get the honor to know that we are apart of a tradition that is only for a select group of girls. If you happen to meet someone that was also an Alpha Sigma you have this special bond because there is nobody like us and we have done the same traditions in Alpha and at UW-Whitewater. Also some, not all, of the people who go to school in the Wisconsin area are most likely going to continue to live in the area. So the fact that national sororities have a national network isn't really an advantage when you mostly stay in one place. We also have strong connections with our alumni association.

Being involved in a national sorority far out weighs the benefits of joining a local. National sororities have policies in place to protect their members. National sororities are also covered by insurance and have high powered attorneys if something does go wrong. Sororities exist for women to become better people and expand their horizons. The women that are members of Delta Zeta and Tri Sigma have more opportunities for networking. National sororities also have better programming. The fun part about being in a national sorority is meeting people from other schools and being able to relate to them because they share your letters, ritual, and values. If you only care about being able to drink and have boys in your chapter house sure go local, but if you want a lifetime membership in a values based organization go national.

You are obviouly misinformed about other sororities values. Local sororities are just as good as national sororities. We have just as strong of a sisterhood as any other sorority so I feel that people shouldn't look down on us because we are not national. The only thing that national sororities have over a local sorority is the fact that they have sisters everywhere. We have similar support financially and morally, we have strong values that are very important to us, and we have a rich history deeply rooted here at UW-Whitewater.

You do realize that the local sorority you're running down is OLDER than the national sororities on campus right? Like it was founded before the national sororities were founded anywhere? That doesn't happen if all you care about is boys and drinking. Throwing around stupid buzzwords like "values based" just makes you sound defensive and like the only way your sorority can compete is by criticizing others.

Oh and if you really think you're going to bond and be bffs with every sister you meet from halfway around the country just because you're in the same sorority, you're super naive. There are some sisters you'll meet who you would never want to spend 5 minutes with and vice versa.

^ Someone is mad that they didn't get a bid to a real sorority.

Really funny to read the perspectives of the girls above. I think it is up to the individual to decide what is important in a sorority. The PMM's are the only ones who can decide what is best and that can be different for everyone you come across. And if they are looking for the real sorority experience then Whitewater is NOT the place to go for that.

On another note... Alpha Sigma definitely copied another national sorority on all of their bid day stuff this year (Fall 2016). Check it out. Just google Alpha Sigma sorority bid day video. Alpha Sigma Alpha (from Indiana) will pop up first and then the Alpha Sigma video will play right after it... see any similarities? I sure did. Pathetic ladies. Come up with your own ideas. They even have a song that is the same.

First, that Bid Day motif has been in use all over the country by both Local and National sororities for at least six years. I've seen pictures. ALL sororities use similar/the same Bid Day motif ideas, look around.

Both videos mentioned above had Bid Days within three days (September 13 and 16) of one another. Bid Day planning takes shape MONTHS before Bid Day occurs, thereby both orgs simultaneously chose their identical motif without the other knowing.

Its strictly coincidence they have similar names, and Whitewater's Alpha Sigma was founded in 1898 compared with Alpha Sigma Alpha's founding in 1901.

Other orgs around the country WITH AND WITHOUT Bid Day Videos used the exact motif for THEIR Bid Days this Fall, too. A good idea gets around!

BTW that video from another campus was Gamma Omega chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha at Eastern ILLINOIS University, and their chants are similar but not the same.
