OXFORD, OHIO, February 2, 2018 –
Beta Theta Pi’s Board of Trustees announced today its commitment to six initial strategies that will chart the organization’s future. In furtherance of providing safe homes that promote the cherished values of our Fraternity, all Beta Theta Pi chapter housing shall be substance-free by August 15, 2020.

Do not kid yourself. They can point to all the safety and moral issues they want, but ultimately these alcohol-free policies are about MONEY $$$!!
Fraternities have lost MILLIONS of DOLLAR$ in lawsuits plus lost revenues in membership because of these alcohol-related deaths, often mixed with hazing.
Think what a couple $10 million dollar payoffs can do to a fraternity’s overal financial standing, including housing and scholarship funds. So yes, a small part is about it being “the right thing to do”. But a bigger part is about the fraternity itself remaining fiscally solvent enough to simply function.
