beta bans alcohol

by: newser

OXFORD, OHIO, February 2, 2018 –
Beta Theta Pi’s Board of Trustees announced today its commitment to six initial strategies that will chart the organization’s future. In furtherance of providing safe homes that promote the cherished values of our Fraternity, all Beta Theta Pi chapter housing shall be substance-free by August 15, 2020.

The reason why they're pulling charters and such is because of the fact that there are tons of incidents of problems with alcohol. Nationals, working with insurance companies, cannot sustain themselves with this, so they want to turn fraternity houses into ones that resemble sororities.

According to Beta's own rules, new pledges have two weeks after accepting a bid to decide whether they want to be initiated or not. If they proceed, then they cannot ever join another college fraternity.

This is just a proposal. It isn't "law" until it passes a vote at the General Convention.
