My rush story - from an active
by: Active
I rushed in fall 24 and have gone through all the ups and downs of Greek life since then. Here’s my complete opinion on joining:
For background, I am in a very middle tier sorority and it was far from my first choice going into rush. I rushed aiming for rank, so even after pref night I just chose the higher ranked house. Didn’t end up in that house. I was pretty bummed come bid day when I found out I didn’t get the house I was basically bid promised at. I was so upset about the house I got that I didn’t participate in anything for the first month. But I gave myself until initiation to officially drop. Once big little came around and I met more girls, I finally started getting over my expectations of being in a high ranked house and participated more. When I got my big I really started to like the house I was in. I decided to get initiated because I didn’t want to wait a whole year to rush again. After initiation, I put a lot of effort into making the most of what I was paying to be in. I also learned a lot more about the inner workings of houses I really wanted to be in, and was glad I didn’t end up there. After my first year finished, I was proud to be in my sorority, and have grown to love each and every part of it. The girls, the events, even our physical house. I love all the culty things we do, all the random mixers we throw. While it hurts to see people spread rumors about my house and talk bad about it, I know they will never experience the true sisterhood I’ve found in my chapter. I wish I hadn’t believed everything I read prior to rush that made me so upset after bid day and caused me to miss out on so many fun memories my sisters have. With all that being said, I know rush is a very vulnerable time for freshmen girls (I mean you’re being judged on everything for days on end, it’s def stressful). I hope all our lovely PNMs find their way this year and find a community that will support them wholly.
