Advice for PNMs
by: Alum
From a graduating senior:
1. House rank only really matters for getting into parties.
2. If you are hot you will get into top house parties no matter what. If you are hot or cool you can make friends with girls in any srat.
3. The girls worth being friends with in every house, regardless of rank, will be your friend if they like you. If a girl doesn’t want to be friends with you or associate with you because of rank, you probably shouldn’t be friends with them anyways.
4. Given that parties are not happening, pick the house where you like the girls’ personalities the most.
I was in a house consistently ranked bottom/ lower mid throughout my four years at Cal. Never had a problem getting into a “top” house party. I was friends with girls in all houses. Some of them are my roommates now. But I’m glad I joined the srat I did, because the percentage of girls who are self-obsessed, insecure, and overly focused on ranking is much lower among mid/bottom houses.

I was so sad when I got dropped from a top house two years ago pref night! I ended up in a mid tier house. I was so upset that I wasn't in the " top house" I had a lot of friends who got into top houses. I didn't understand why I didn't get in as well. I felt I was just as fun ,nice, and pretty. I actually felt girls that were in my group who got into the top houses were less fun and pretty than many of the girls who got into lower middle sororities. I was so upset I actually cried when I saw where I was placed. I am so ashamed that only two years ago I felt this way. I have been in a mid tier house with the kindest most fun beautiful women I have ever encountered. Many of my friends who got into top houses do not have half of the relationships/sisterhood that I have formed in my sorority.I only wish I knew this two years ago and didn't allow it to question myself or my worth. One of the best things that happened to me at Berkeley is my sorority and the amazing women I have met.
