affording greek life

by: transferbear

I'm transferring to Cal and really want to join a sorority, but I'm worried I won't be able to afford it.

Are there payment plans? How do people do it?

some context -- stressed about affording new member fees, but can definitely afford living in house fees

For the most part, there aren’t payment plans. National organizations are really rigid about dues and don’t like to give exceptions, and scholarships are reserved for active members, not new members. That said, once you are a member, different sororities have different methods of financial aid, including scholarships and aid money directly from alum! If you’re worried about affording out of house dues, maybe consider waiting till spring for continuous open bidding instead rushing in the fall, which about half of the houses do!
