why is theta ranked so low?

by: freshman

every girl i talked to during rush seemed so nice and genuine, so I was just wondering why they are considered "bottom tier?" I heard that it was one of the oldest sororities on campus along with the four top tier sororites, so why is theta not up there with them?

Theta historically has been known as a house that doesn't go out much and stays under the radar. The '17 pledge class is a lot cuter and more social, but it takes time for a house to be seen as as different rank than what they've been known as for so long. In terms of which frats/sororitys they hang out with, I think most would consider them mid tier rather than bottom. The only real bottom tier house at Cal is Gamma Phi.

Theta has a lot of cute girls now to be honest. Just give it 2 more semesters everyone will be on board.

Too bad you didn't have the courage to get behind the labels and do your own thinking about Theta. But you know what? You don't matter because there were many people this year that met and loved the people at Theta and they were super happy to pledge there. If you can't get behind the labels and make your own decisions you deserve what you get which is NOTHING. Theta is a great house as is DDD, Zeta, AXO, ADPi, SK etc. I am not a Theta but I respect them because they have a plan and they are making that plan happen. They also have huge history at Cal and this is important too.

@defensive much. Please relax. Take a breath. Breathe In and then out SLOWLY. I am not a Theta. I am just so tired of people bashing on strong houses for purely superficial reasons such as what we saw from the OP. I am not sure where the bitterness and rudeness comes into the comment I made either? I really wonder if PNMs truly understand how unique the Cal system is vs other schools and how there is a house for everyone that follows the rules and maximizes their opportunities? I don't think people get it. Every year the rejection experienced over the first 2 days seems to lobotomize everyone and they lose their ability to make a good long term decision. People drop in droves and then blame the system. I am just picking a number of the avg sized friend group as being 5-6 people. What are the chances of not finding a friend group for virtually anyone going through fall recruitment of 5-6 people in ANY house? Slim to none. I am not sure what people are looking for that feel compelled to drop or question for a second that they wouldn't be happy at Theta or any other house at Cal. This is not a difficult process. Join A house and make friends. Not hard to do AT ALL.

A reminder that rankings are RELATIVE. Theta is ranked low relative to all the other houses at Cal but that doesn’t mean they’re not a strong house. As all the houses get stronger, theoretically so will theta, but they’re getting better pretty much at the same rate as a lot of other houses (zeta, tri delt, etc.) meaning they likely won’t surpass any house in ranking and will still be seen as “bottom tier”
