delta sigma advice

by: Anon

I'm really interested in Delta Sigma but the problem is that they are a local chapter and do not have a large alum network. Other than that, are they less involved in greek life because of their nonphc status or are they just as involved like other sororties?

join a house for the girls in it right now they’re the people you’re going to be spending your time with. i’ve heard of lots of girls in that house getting jobs with there alumnis and sisters. same with every other house too. greek life at cal isn’t that big of a deal. just join whichever house you genuinely like.

Just assume this is a housing option for your time at Cal where housing options are piss poor. Local organization with a beautiful house and that is it. No more no less. Make your decision based on this and just keep it moving. Don't know why this house didn't recolonize with another national immediately after the mess with the prior national. Given the history of the house and its board with the national my guess is that there is some long term strategy in place to continue to torment AOPI. If this group were serious about greek life and moving on they would have affiliated with another national last year. Instead what do we have? We have not much. Its kinda greek but not really. Not sure why the house won't move on. My guess is its because the board level folks can't keep it moving and put the past in the past. Long term an independent house adds nothing to our system. Not sure why they have been permitted to be part of panhel. You are either a greek national organization or not and this house is NOT. Part of joining a house is not just the experience for 4 years but for the years after college. This house doesn't have that except for the prior members that were members of AOPi. Why the board that owns the house doesn't want the chapter to move on and affiliate with another national has to be for purely selfish reasons. These sad and angry folks are holding on to the past instead of trying to create a future for the next generation of women at Cal. Entire situation is sad but I don't think it will EVER change. Join knowing what it is and what is will not EVER be.

Wow. SMH. Moving on in life works for everyone, and DS has done so magnanimously. Wish the sad women who post here and would intentionally like to see DS fail would move on as well.

Something that really bothers me is how misleading delta sigmas social media presence is. They feature the same girls over and over again and purposefully exclude their conventionally less attractive, non-white members. See any sigma in person and you’ll realize their social media presence is a front to make them seem like a mid tier house. The majority of their sisters, especially the newest pledge classes, are more aligned with the bottom tier houses at Cal. There’s nothing wrong with being bottom tier. At least own it. I literally know girls who received bids from Delta Sigma but turned them down to join AXO and Theta the following semesters.. at least these chapters try to be inclusive. Delta sigma tries way to hard to seem important. I don’t know how I’d feel if I joined a house that doesn’t even want me to be visible. It’s kind of sad.. tri delta, SK and ZTA are all mid tier houses that at least are inclusive of their non-white members
