On a house to house basis they only hang out with their own tier. But on an individual basis like if you're sick you're sick. Like there's a squad of sigma nus and tkes that I see in the top tier Greek scene. I also have seen zetes hang out with lower houses. If you're cool you're cool. But if you want to be superficial I'd say stick to either Fiji, DKE, SAE, Zete, KA, or Pike. If you're in Sigma Chi, Delta Chi, Sigma nu, or Phi Psi and you're not weird you're probably very active in the top tier Greek scene.

I would expand that list. I think if you're also in theta chi, pi kapp, phi tau, chi phi, aepi, tke, you can be active in the top tier greek scene. Its houses like tdx, sammies, acacia, pi lam, sigma pi, alpha sig, etc where theres a limited amount of cool people that I can't see in the top tier greekscene. And its not because of the houses they're in, its most like cool people wouldnt want to join houses like that where over half of people are lame.

I mean everyone at cal is hella studious. No one came here to party. In that sense, I think that you're top tier houses like sae, fiji, ka, have like maybe a few guys who put partying first in them. And the rest of the houses dont have any that do. Middle houses and top houses at this school arent really that different and individual brothers of different ranked houses can absolutely hang out. I saw someone else's response and I agree, unless you're in a house like phi delt or sig ep, you're average brother probably not that different than a brother at sae or dke.

To answer the original question you tend to be put in more social settings where you have an opportunity to meet the people within your own tier the most. You'll meet a lot of people in class, clubs, or through other friends a lot though and you'll quickly find that regardless of which houses you joined, you aren't actually that different. This tends to happen more toward the end or after freshman year though when people get more mature and stop caring about rank. So yes, as someone in a mid tier house you will have friends in and be invited to parties at top tier houses but whether your house actually exchanges with them is more of a case by case thing.
