panhel should step up and help pnms understand xo
by: jenPNMs have expressed how they have tried to speak with RC's and the house about the current status of the house and haven't received much if any information. XO is asking PNMs to take a chance that things will work out with what seems to be absolutely no information. Is Panhel OK with what is happening? Why are PNMs who know nothing of greek life being put in the awful position of trying to sort out what the hell is going on? The financial stakes for a PNM are real and I simply don't get why Panhel is simply standing by and not doing anything one way or the other to clarify things for PNMs as they are in a terrible terrible spot. I for one am NOT OK with the way PNMs are being treated on this issue and so many of these people desperately want to join our system and just might join and NOT understand what is going on. Why is our Panhel OK with this situation? Nothing about the way this has been handled is OK or fair to PNMs that know virtually nothing of greek life. I want XO to succeed but what is happening is NOT RIGHT and Panhel has done ZERO that I can see to help poor PNMs make an educated choice. We are educated women and I am not sure how any educated person can thing what is going down is OK on any level. Is there national supervision or not? Is there probation or not? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? This is absolutely shameful and below the standards of our school. Not right on any level.

I am sitting here after have asked the questions in the OP and I cannot believe I am the only person around here that is not ok with PNMs being put into the situation that they are current in at the moment? How in the world can anyone at Panhel or XO national think its ok for PNMs that know so little to go through Pref and not be extended the courtesy of receiving solid answers to honest questions? This situation is honestly deplorable and frankly shameful to our entire system. Things might work out for people joining but things might not be right and how awful would that be. What is the responsibility of Panhel in this situation as XO is a member of Panhel and has been for many many years. I almost feel that this situation is being whitewashed for PNMs and that Panhel does not hold itself responsible for the behavior of its members. Nobody wants XO to fail and leave. But XO has a responsibility to Panhel to be honest and also has a responsibility to its members and any prospective members. This situation is deplorable and needs to be addressed before bids. Anyone receiving a bid from XO should be extended the respect of answers to any and all questions they might have before signing anything. Where the hell are the leaders of ALL of the houses on this issue as obviously Panhel is doing nothing. This is not right.

How are the leaders of other houses feeling about this situation? It is so absolutely wrong to put this on pnms that it is shocking to me that not one person has spoken up at all. This in and of itself is totally shameful. This entire situation is a sham and I'm totally calling BS on XO national. I do think the local chapter should have been more honest with pnm. But this is not an issue with pnms. This is a XO national and Cal Panhel issue that should have been resolved before recruitment. We are now at bids and pnms have no clue what to do. Why was this allowed to happen? pnms vote with your feet and your pocketbook and while it might be hard please stand up for how you want to be treated both by your school panhel and the national organization of XO. Have we totally lost site of right and wrong?

Panhel may not know much more than you. It's really up to Chi O to clarify their situation. If you receive a bid from them today, go! If all the potential pledges band together and say that as a group they want more info directly from the Chi O Advisor or National BEFORE you pledge or initiate, seems like someone would have to show up to talk to you. Maybe they can send the same person who investigated/put the house on probation last spring.
Chi O wants you so use that to your advantage. You could also check out the Chi O National website and see if you can learn anything there. Def more info and transparency is better and you should know what you're getting into before you initiate. But if they've got a great group there today, and it seems like they will, will probs be fine.

Agree with @qt. Things never get better after you join an organization as you then become subject to THEIR rules. This entire situation was totally wrong and absolutely unfair to pnms.
