which houses did you pref and which did you pick?
by: angry2I continue to think about some of the issues surrounding our fall recruitment and am now more puzzled than ever? It seems that many posts talk about not trusting the process and by association Panhel. As panhel doesn't choose to share much info how about people post what their pref houses were and which house they picked? Also if you think that you were dropped from a house for no reason post that too. It will be helpful to see this information to see if any patterns emerge. My suspicion is that the patterns will reveal themseles in no time flat!

Recruitment for me was very fun throughout the process I had an awkward conversation with pi phi so I dropped them I like DG Aphi and XO as the days went on a girl in aphi asked if I had fam in Greek life and I told her I am a legacy for dg and right after that aphi dropped me, then when I went to dg, I'm sure the girls are great but I just didn't really click the conversation was forced and I didn't really like the house finally I ended up in XO and I absolutely love it, i have never felt so supported and I have a great group of sisters that I know I can always count on, everyone does really end up in a great house and each house has great girls because the woman of cal are amazing and I love them all!!! Don't worry too much because everyone that I know in different houses all love it and really find great connections, give each house a chance and you won't regret it!!

Honestly, FFR was not pleasant. Some houses were blatantly disinterested in getting to know PNM's that didn't seem to fit the 'aesthetic' of their house. I didn't have very good conversations at XO or ADPi so I dropped them on the first day. I felt very uncomfortable at KKG and DG on day 2 so I dropped them. I ended up prefing SK and DDD and picked the latter. I am super happy with my house and my sisters!

Everyone considering going through FFR should read all ten pages of this to get a sense of rush. Don't get your heart set on one or two houses. With the numbers of women who went through last year, you should be glad to get any house, and they're all good. Ignore the rankings and the gossip and look for women who look like they'd be good friends and sisters. Keep an open mind and don't give up!

@biases. What did you mean about this thread being '....removed, modified and/or corrected'? I thought the only way to delete/remove something was to pay to have it removed or report it as slander etc.?
Also, I agree with your 'maximizing options' comment completely but the issue we faced last year was the very high drop rate after people didn't get their top choices and so PNMs seemed to say that they didn't care so much about 'maximizing options'. Perhaps PNMs this year will be more open minded and see the strength of our system, value in being part of greek system and the solid houses across our panhel. I am not sure though that much has been done to address this issue of 'maximizing options' at all as the only people that seem to pay lip service to it are the people on panhel as PNMs pretty much gave that concept the middle finger last year. If we have the same drop rate that we had last year again this year then it seems that the overall strength of panhel will simply diminish over time in the event that not all houses get quota. You combine not all houses getting quota last year with a single house losing 1/2 their members and I think we still have some work to do to strengthen the entire system.

be careful to note that the houses cited on this page as being unpleasant during recruitment (ahem ahem kappa dg) turned out to have poor retention rates throughout the year. make sure you truly evaluate the character of girls during rush as they are going to be a big part of your cal experience. dont join em if you dont like em

Retention is a reflection of so many factors including the quality of house leadership. More than a few houses have struggled with retention and so many of the comments in this thread accurately explain why this is the case. To the person that posted 'if you don't like 'em, don't join' I think this is probably the best advice I've heard in a long long time. So many people last year got trapped into thinking there is only 1-2 houses for me based on preconceived notions and nonsense. Many of these misguided people dropped early and so lost out on so many things that are unique to greek life. Even if the going gets rough during recruitment stick it out until the bitter end. I got one of my top 2 picks last year and was quite happy but it took a good amount of time to meet everyone in the house and feel at home. It made a huge difference that I had alot in common with many people in the house.

hi! i'm rushing this fall and after reading this entire thread I have so much information! A few questions, 1- I was told that there will be 3 houses at pref, not 2?? What was the 3rd house that is not included in your posts? (or was that a house that didn't pick you after pref night?) also any advice you can give to someone who is rushing this fall? After reading this thread I have a lot of questions and concerns about rush this year. I would really appreciate your help!!
