which houses did you pref and which did you pick?

by:

I continue to think about some of the issues surrounding our fall recruitment and am now more puzzled than ever? It seems that many posts talk about not trusting the process and by association Panhel. As panhel doesn't choose to share much info how about people post what their pref houses were and which house they picked? Also if you think that you were dropped from a house for no reason post that too. It will be helpful to see this information to see if any patterns emerge. My suspicion is that the patterns will reveal themseles in no time flat!

To Hmmm, funny how we all read things differently! I guess that's good as it gives us something to chat about. I'd be curious to see the numbers but just looking at simple pledge class size it makes sense that some of the comments on here are saying what they are saying. A number of houses (pi phi, xo, a phi and theta I think I have this right) did have largeish classes so if people are posting it makes sense that these names pop up more vs those houses that had smaller classes. Not sure this logic holds perfectly across the board but its all we have to deal with. If the big cuts were done by kappa and dg round one then these pnms most likely continued on with the recruitment and ended up in other houses. The comments here seem to talk about quite a few houses where people ended up and seem quite happy. For what its worth just based on my floor, people generally liked meeting with all the houses after the big day one cuts. Some houses though made people feel comfortable and I think the comments here were pretty real about those issues as well. Don't really think there is anything beyond just stating personal experience here as anything more would be way too much work!

I prefed ddd and xo and picked ddd. I loved both houses and I know I would have been happy in either. There were other houses I know I would have enjoyed joining as well: axo, sk, aphi, pi phi, zeta and theta. Unfortunately I was cut by kappa, dg and pi phi by round 2. There were many good options and I'm happy where I landed.

I prefed AXO and SK. Honestly liked both houses. Had a waaaay better pref night experience at SK but knew I wouldn't have really fit in there. AXO is filled with many quirky, out there people while I felt like SK had some oddballs but most would have honestly found me annoying lol. Picked AXO and really like it so far. Wish we had a social life a bit more like SK (heh) but I wouldn't trade our sisterhood for anything. Everyone really genuinely seems to like each other here. I also got good vibes from DDD, adpi, theta and pi phi. I know some cool people in XO but the women I talked to during rush were really stuck up.

I preffed a phi and sk and picked sk. I liked both houses a lot. Not sure I made the right choice for me though as the party bit is not quite me but I'm hanging in there. To those going through next year, think about how much you want to go out as it differs between houses. On my floor we have a bunch of people in all different houses and its interesting how each house is socially a bit different.

I preffed pi phi and a phi and picked (doesn't matter!). My only reason for posting was to say that I met great people at all the houses but I was quite upset to be cut round 1 from my mom's house xo. Not sure what the legacy policies are or even if they were followed but I honestly didn't feel welcomed at all and I know for fact that they didn't acknowledge the recommendation. I met two people the first night and both conversations were quite awkward. Not sure what happened but I was disappointed. Same thing happened to another person on my floor with her moms house and she was crushed to be dropped first night. She kept on going and now loves her house, but it was rough way to start recruitment.

Week was rough for sure, never seen so many teary faces. Out of the box I lost kkg and dg. I pref. sk and a phi and picked a phi. I love my house and its great that on my floor we have people at four other houses. I see now how each of the people on my floor like their houses and how in many ways we each could have enjoyed any number of other houses. Its been fun meeting sisters from other houses through different people on my floor. Not sure where on this site a number of other people were talking about legacies not being acknowledged but my mom and grandmother were both dg's and submitted paperwork and nobody sent them an email to say their paperwork arrived and also to say that I was cut after first round. If you are a legacy realize it doesn't seem to count for anything at cal - just don't want you to feel hurt as at other schools legacy status is a big deal.

It was a roller coaster of a week for sure! I prefd aphi and pi phi and pledged pi phi and I totally love my house and new sisters. I honestly met great ladies at all the houses and I know I would have been happy at any number of houses. On my floor alone we have people in six houses so I've been lucky enough to meet many other people at those houses and that has been fantastic. My advice to people going through recruitment is to roll with the process. There are ups and downs and sometimes its hard to believe things will work out but surprisingly they do. I also say to disregard the ranks completely. Go with where you feel welcomed and comfortable - fit is it!

I didn't know much about the system and just went because others on my floor thought it might be fun. I was dropped by pi phi day one and alpha phi day 2. I prefd kappa and dg and picked dg. It was a a mistake and not good fit for me. I depledged. Sad about the entire thing as I think a more diverse group would have been better fit for me. Just a message to others going through in the spring or next fall, think about the long term and how comfortable you feel in your house. Its so easy to be sucked into the process and its hard to take a step back to think about the longer term. I truly think for many it would be better to wait until sophomore year to decide what to do. Wish I had waited, but that's just me. Hope this comment helps others.

The entire experience was pretty devastating. Got dropped by dg, pi phi, and aphi all the second day. Was really upset but still had SK the last day and I thought I really clicked with the girls I met in there, but was dropped on pref day. Everyday getting dropped was discouraging but I didn't care about getting into a the "top" houses, just wanted to get in one where I felt like I belonged. Pref day I had 2 choices and didn't like either so dropped out. Though it was a great experience to meet new people, I'd say the whole process was pretty bad, though I know it was great for others. Just wish I hadn't gone through basically the entire process to only drop out in the end. Know a couple other girls who experienced this, and I can say its really hard to make connections or go to parties when you're not in a sorority. Just wish they could accept more girls, I understand it was a large class who rushed. Thinking about spring rush though, hopefully there will be updates about that soon!

I'm sorry you did not feel you belonged in either of the two groups who chose to pref you. Glad you had the great experience of meeting new people.

Cal sororities can and do accept "more women" only when said women choose to complete the recruitment process. Women cannot be counted into Fall formal quota if they do not complete the full recruitment (prior to bid day) process.

The RFM recruitment method Cal uses would have had a bid day spot for you in one of their fine sororities had you chose to attend those two pref parties and maximized your signed pref card option, because RFM maximizes the number of women given bids.

Formal Quota (this year quota was 54) is not chosen until after sororities know the number of women who attended their pref parties.
