which houses did you pref and which did you pick?
by: angry2I continue to think about some of the issues surrounding our fall recruitment and am now more puzzled than ever? It seems that many posts talk about not trusting the process and by association Panhel. As panhel doesn't choose to share much info how about people post what their pref houses were and which house they picked? Also if you think that you were dropped from a house for no reason post that too. It will be helpful to see this information to see if any patterns emerge. My suspicion is that the patterns will reveal themseles in no time flat!

I have read this thread and there are two wholly different outlooks presented as to what Cal sororities are looking to do for pnms in Fall 2017. Some state the sororities want fewer new members in 2017 and are willing to cut more women faster to get rid of high new member numbers, and others state panhel looks forward to accepting any women willing to maximize her options in order to join. So its confusing as to whether Cal sororities truly want new members or not.

Last year many mistakes were made in the administration of results during pref. If you think that your situation is the result of an error please please please speak to panhel or your rho chi. You absolutely cannot assume that the computer is right as that was the lesson many learned the hard way last year. I would suggest emailing the president of panhel and sending a copy to your rho chi to be safe. Last year enough people did complain but some of the people that were dropped at the end didn't complain and should have. Don't assume the system is functioning.

There is no way to answer your question in the space given on this website. My only general advice is to present an image during recruitment that represents 'your best self'. I truly believe that if you come across as authentic and interested as well as interesting that you can find a home in our system. The beauty (for lack of a better word!) of our system is sheer diversity amongst the houses. I know other threads are questioning diversity and what I am talking about is not a racial definition of diversity (although that does exist to) but rather we do not have a system comprised of houses where everyone looks the same, comes from the same place, has similar majors etc. There is no such thing as a cookie-cutter member of our community. I know some might disagree and that's ok, but having seen the scene at other schools I believe the Cal system to comprised of people that are largely themselves and I for one think this is a major strength of our system vs. what you might find at other schools. This is strictly my opinion and I hope as you move through recruitment that you ask for other people's opinions as it will help you figure out what you believe. I wish you the best!
