which houses did you pref and which did you pick?

by:

I continue to think about some of the issues surrounding our fall recruitment and am now more puzzled than ever? It seems that many posts talk about not trusting the process and by association Panhel. As panhel doesn't choose to share much info how about people post what their pref houses were and which house they picked? Also if you think that you were dropped from a house for no reason post that too. It will be helpful to see this information to see if any patterns emerge. My suspicion is that the patterns will reveal themseles in no time flat!

I was dropped by KKG and DG first round and XO second round. Love where I ended up but prefer not to say where!

Thank you for your spot-on message. Too many pnms don't know about the npc recruitment drop rules for popular houses, and I hope more people read your post so they do.

PNMs, please read @bumping to clarify comment and then read it again. If you understand what you are going to experience it will take much of the emotion away and allow you to think through choices clearly and make decisions in a way that are in your best interest. You are in charge of your recruitment experience. Decide if your priority to be part of the greek system here or maybe not? Try to think about these things in the early days of the week as once exhaustion sets in and stress escalates, making a thoughtful decision becomes more challenging. If you decide to drop or leave and feel comfortable with that choice that is totally fine. But if you drop do it for a good reason. But I wanted to share my roommates experience from last year (not an unusual story at all but still helpful to hear again). My roommate dropped after day 1 because she wasn't asked back to the only house she was interested in and where her mother had also been a member years before. During the year my roommate met people from the house I joined, friends of mine from other houses and got to be good friends with some of the people on our hall that joined houses that she had dismissed. On the last day of school my roommate told me that she really had shot herself in the foot as all the people on our floor that were in houses that were now her friends were all people she could see as housemates and sisters. She is now sitting in a dark dorm room going thru recruitment again and I'm in my house.

I was dropped by KKG first round, DG second round and XO third round. Pref'd APhi and XO and picked APhi. Hope this helps figure out what happened. I was devastated by the experience after the first 2 events but I hung with it and am super happy. Never saw so many tears in my life though. Sad for those that dropped out. Hope it can be fixed so this doesn't happen again.

I had a really rough recruitment process. Lost my favorites (DG, ADPi and XO) in the first two round and wasn't sure I was going to stay with the process. I met alot of nice people at all the houses and I think this is the message I'd like to put out there for someone thinking about joining. I'm proud that I stayed with recruitment and pref'd at APhi and Theta and I picked Theta. Neither of the houses that I pref'd were ones that I thought I would like after the first round but I have to say I love where I ended up. So my advice to anyone is to try and roll with the process and you never know but it all might work out!

This is such a good idea! Recruitment was HELL and totally no fun and I hope it can be improved next year as there didn't seem to be enough spots for all the people going through the process. But I met alot of great friends and that made it worth it. The other thing I learned is that rankings didn't help me go through the process at all. There honestly were good people at all the houses and I really had a tough time figuring out which houses were my favorites. It was a rocky road the first two rounds but I pref'd xo and adpi and picked xo and am loving it so far!

There are always enough spots for any pnm who maximizes her recruitment options. No quota is chosen until panhel knows the number of women attending pref parties and signing bid cards, which occur very near the end of formal recruitment (end is bid day).

@katri glad you learned the rankings on GR have nothing whatever to do with reality; it is always best to discover the truth about recruitment for yourself.

I was dropped from Kappa without even a chance. I had a slightly awkward conversation with DG. I was dropped from pi phi and adpi after a great conversation! No reason at all and to my surprise.

Dropped by kkg, dg, xo. What hurt is that the girls didnt even seem interested in chatting. I heard one kappa say to another that they had their pledge class all picked out so why bother with recruitment parties. This was crushing to hear. I prefd adpi and aphi and chose adpi. System seemed cooked to me but I'm loving my house. Glad people are posting as this process is awful and nobody is watching what is going on.

Seriously tough experience...I didn't even get the feeling people wanted to meet me. Dropped by kkg and dg first round after good conversations. Piphi dropped next round and that was my fav. Almost dropped out but my rush counselor pulled me off that ledge and I'm grateful to her. Pref adpi and theta and picked theta as I felt most comfortable there and I am having a great time with my new sisters.

Not sure what all the fuss is about here? Sure the process is hard but getting into cal wasn't easy either,
was it? It's like anything else and you need to know people. I had networked all summer through friends and friends of my mom. I got tons of references and had them sent in before Rush. I prefd kkg and piphi and picked kkg as they had a lot of people from my high school and it felt like home. I honestly liked the pi phi folks a bit more but didn know as many people in the house so I went where I knew more people. I'm happy with the result. I met nice people everywhere and could have been happy at any number of houses. Don't understand why someone would drop out at pref.

Getting into Cal required working hard. It didn't involve knowing people. That's why it's a fair system. Not everyone knows people in top houses. Many girls don't have those connections and they might be perfectly good candidates for a house! You sound like a Kappa! Living in your own alternate reality bubble!

what? Do you think all people are viewed equally? No. We are different. Some get along better with some than others and guess what?! That's OK.
No sorority owes you or anyone an equal rush experience. what a bunch of whiners.
There are nuances to people and their personalities, looks and backgrounds...there is no 'equality' or 'sameness' and that is evident in college acceptances and sorority bid as well. We are humans and are each unique. Don't think we relate to decision makers 'equally'. omg.
