i am a gphi at another school and i came here after watching that youtube video on the girl was in gphi here a few years ago at ucr. i would like to make it clear that this is not a reflection of all gphis! this is one girl who had a bad experience with one pledge class. her video does not reflect the entire sorority, hopefully this doesnt reflect the current gphis at ucr either. but i just want to make it clear that gphis are as awful as she made them sound in her video.

I was a part of this chapter for just under a year and left after many months of being bullied and deliberating whether leaving was worth losing the few friends i actually did make (all who ended up leaving before me which led to my decision to follow suit) I joined because they seemed to preach sisterhood and their community presence with their 5 Philanthropies. However, we did little volunteer work, which was the main appeal for me and I was disappointed. Many girls bullied me for not matching their appearance standards at Letters, for not owning or being able to afford mandatory outfits for events or rush, not having similar interests in more girly aspects such as makeup, boys, and partying. Leadership was fickle and changed often due to scandals or poor grades. Overall, there was little support for those like me who experienced lots and lots of discrimination and exclusion. I only talked to make 2 girls regularly, and tried reaching out to Alumnae and officers for guidance but was pretty much ignored. Leadership and poor management drove my two friends out, which gave me no reason to stay. Overall, I regret paying so much money, gave so much time, just to allow these superficial, pretentious people make me feel awful about myself. I joined a smaller, nonGreek frat on campus, that was way cheaper, that had much higher quality people. I would not recommend sorority life for those who dislike the stereotype of the party scene. Also, I was not allowed to bring a female friend to a formal event, and was told by an officer I needed to bring not only a male, but a male from another Greek org, and that’s just bothered me ever since. For anyone LGBTQIA+, I was saddened they were not more open-minded and accepting as they said they were.

Ok here’s the thing with Gphi. If you’re one of the pretty girls they will hype you up and make you feel all that. Then you will go around campus acting all entitled and feel like “all that”. When in reality the rest of Greek life / campus literally thinks of you as nobodies and spoiled brats who think are too good for everything. OR you get a bid bc you have good grades but not good looks so the GPHI exec board and “pretty” girls will do everything to hide you from everyone and act like you’re not in the chapter. No socials, no date parties and no formals. You will never be seen on their Instagram. It’s the sad truth.

honestly it makes me really sad to say this because I thought they were really genuine people when I first came into college, but it’s clear that they only care about a few ten members and use them on their instagram 24/7. I have friends in kappa and they always talk about how they are under appreciated :( It makes me sad

honesty it’s gamma phi then MAYBE kappa as a close second and the rest are completely irrelevant and everyone in greek knows this is true.

From last year they seem to have improved a lot. Some of their parties were alright but the majority that I went to I had a lot of fun. Hopefully they keep on improving because I enjoy going to their parties, they just are not that popular yet. Best of luck boys!
