What do you mean background? I know wonderful girls in the two sororities you mentioned below who have strong academic backgrounds, as well as, a strong Christian background. Many girls are from affluent backgrounds, and many are from average middle income homes. I don't get what you are saying.

that people feel the need to post such untrue generalizations right as the PNMs are getting ready to arrive. You do not need to come from an affluent background to find a home in Auburn Panhellenic. My parents are self-employed and I go to Auburn on a large scholarship that is entirely need-based. I have to work part-time to pay my sorority dues. In spite of all this, I have never felt anything less than loved and accepted by my sorority and by the Greek community for who I am. ALL IN. <3

Over misleading posts about costs. PNMs can go to Auburn Panhellenic's website and see estimates of annual costs. These are pretty accurate. Of course, you can drive it up by buying every little shirt, jacket, etc that comes along or going on lots of trips, etc. but there are FEW things you are required to buy. I am the daughter of a single parent who makes a middle class income. I try to be responsible and not go overboard, but sorority has not been a burden to us. The rewards are more than worth it.

to imply that you have to be a spoiled rich girl to afford a sorority. The last two or three posts below are right! Do some members come from families who are fortunate enough to have houses in Mt Brook or some other affluent community and summer places on the lake or condos at the beach. Sure they do. But MOST of them? Not at all! If you were involved in high school with things like band, athletics, cheer, dance, etc you will find that sorority is fairly comparable to the financial costs you had with those things. It's not "cheap" but it is not budget busting either!

As I begin my Senior year at Auburn, it's hard to believe this will be my last recruitment as an active member. I'm so excited about this year! Recruitment for all of our groups has been so strong for the past couple of years, and I see this year as more of the same. So many AWESOME girls are coming through, I truly think that ALL of our sororities are going to pledge really incredible classes! Auburn Panhellenic has come together with such mutual respect and support between our sororities. Greek life has never been better. Good luck to ALL and War Eagle!!
