Is my 3.0 gpa good enough?

by: waffles

I have exactly a 3.0 right now not including my summer class. It says my chances are lessened without a 3.2. Do you think I will still be chosen by sororities?

Hey! I want to be very real with you and let you know that it is going to be very hard for you to get a bid with a GPA that low unless you have someone in a chapter that can vouch for you. A lot of the sororities have GPA cuts as high as 3.5, and the lowest I have heard of is 3.3. Those cuts either take place immediately after IWT or right after philanthropy round.

I think if you could put your best foot forward with the houses you will get back, I think you will be okay, but you might get dropped by more houses than you would think. I had a GPA of a 3.9 and got back 11 and my closest friend had a 3.3 and only got 8 houses back. I have heard of a sophomore rushing with a 3.0 and she received 3. She ended up dropping and going through the COB route in the spring. It puts you at a disadvantage, so I would suggest COB with that low of a GPA.

The sororities are a bit more lenient with college GPA's than high school ones.

Go through recruitment and see what happens but be prepared. You don't get a thing if you don't try. If you get a bid during formal recruitment remember that it's your best chance. If it doesn't work out you can try COB but go through formal first.
