You declare you want to run for an office and someone has to second the motion, which then gets approved. Or, someone nominates you, then someone seconds that motion. All candidates for an office are then "slated", meaning listed on a ballot and the chapter votes. Only a senior can run for president. Juniors and seniors can run for the higher offices/positions of vice presidents, treasurer, secretary, et cetera. Sophomores can hold the lower offices/positions.

I've spoken for my chapter, of course! Others may vary.

How do I let people know my ideas/qualities? Do we have an opportunity to speak to the entire chapter in case they don't know me?

Yes, you'll get to speak and offer your ideas and plans for the chapter. Usually it's a one or two minute speech.

you must be a new member... every chapter does it very differently and you should ask them, not post here

Think of student council type speeches, if that helps! :-)

In my chapter you're not allowed to speak in front of your sisters. And girls who don't run get the position because they know certain people.

If you have a vision, leave it at the door. Befriend the current council and try to show that you will keep things as they are. They count the votes anyhow.

See all these ideas? They're all legit but so different so the best bet is to ask internally. Good luck!

Impress the seniors because for most chapters they're the ones that pick the new council

In my house last year no one wanted run for the higher offices so they had to force girls into it. Those positions each had only one person running and those were mostly girls with super easy majors who had a lot of free time. E. Board offices are thankless jobs and you tend to make some enemies. I don't want to discourage you but I think you should know some of the bad stuff!
