spring rush
by: PNMCan someone please explain how spring rush works this upcoming year? Is it formal or informal? Also when will we know what sororities are participating in it? Is it true that you have to know people to get a bid for spring rush?

It's informal but - from what I understand - not in the structured way that some schools hold theirs. Those schools have all chapters with open spots participate and hold parties over a three-day period. You attend all the parties for all the eligible houses and if they like you they'll give you a bid. So you could be holding bids from several houses and have 24 hours to make your decision. Being from out of state, this is what friends tell me so it's confusing!
Here, it seems that you're invited to parties at a few houses and have less options. This is why if you have friends from other parts of the country or friends up north you'll hear different stories. Other schools hold formal rush in January. It gives sororities the advantage of really watching potential new members during the fall semester!

Spring formal Rush instead of fall wd be so much better. Pnms would have a chance to get used to school and establish a support system before trying to rush when they have been in college for like, five minutes. For girls who get cut it is a terrible introduction to UF. And it would prevent people from joining the wrong chapter.
