Very heteronormative, feeds into tape culture and chapters are not supportive of each other
Cool greek scene
People in Greek life have higher gpa’s and have way more opportunities to party and make friends. As far as the liberal arts schools go its a no brainer to a certain extent.
Not sure why recruitment isn't until sophomore fall. Leaves a lot of time for dirty rushing and stereotypes spread by PNMs and those in greek life that have to deal with the stress of rush for a whole year. When juniors go abroad each chapter loses a significant percent of people, which would be balanced if freshmen could join in the spring. Would increase freshmen overall happiness with the school as well.
School would be better without it just saying
Greek life would be better if people stopped placing so much emphasis on tiers.
Great for a liberal arts school
Defidently one of the best colleges to rush if your looking at liberal arts. Greek life is on the rise as more and more are getting houses back.
Great sense of community that is Also much more focused on outreach than other schools.
I chose not to go Greek, and I think there are a lot of benefits of going Greek, but within the context of Lafayette, Greek Life was not right for me. I feel at this school, there is some toxicity involved in being in Greek Life. The toxicity is very much present in sorority rush. I think because there are not a whole lot of sororities, there is some increased competition between each sorority, which I personally do not like, because being in sororities should be about empowering women and not teaching them to compete with one another. Fraternities, however, I feel like are less focused on competition, but more about their individual brotherhoods, which is good, however, fraternities can be problematic too, and definitely have been in the past when it came to situations involving sexual harassment and sexual assault. However, Greek Life provides people with a support network of people and allows many people to find their best friends as well as their place on campus. Being in Greek life also can increase networking opportunities down the road, particularly if you are in a sorority that is present on most American campuses. People in Greek Life also have study hours together, so it provides people with opportunities to receive homework help or to form a study group. Greeks usually have stuff planned each weekend, so they do not need to worry about making plans or searching for parties to go to because they already have one lined up. Though it is not for me personally, Greek Life has provided people with many opportunities and has had an awesome impact on a lot of people's lives at Lafayette.
