sorority houses

by:

I've never been in a sorority house. What are they like at URI? I saw some when I visited campus, are they nice on the inside? Does every sorority have one? How soon can you live there?

They aren't mansions, and none of them are new, but each house has some good features. Early in recruitment you'll get tours and can ask questions. You can also look on all the social media sites and see pictures of the girls in their houses to get an idea.

The outside of the houses is no representation of what they are like on the inside. They are much nicer inside, but obviously some are a little nicer then others. Just depends on if they own the house and how much money their nationals is willing to put into it.

That's not entirely accurate. Most houses are owned, leased, or managed by local alumni. They may receive guidance from their nationals, but all billing and renovations go through the alumni house corporation. Money doesn't come from nationals, it's raise it through billing, donations, and the sale of old properties. It would be strange to think a national org would build multimillion dollar mansions on some campuses and not do much on others.

I rushed last year...my favorite houses (like, the actual houses) were Chi Omega, Sigma Delta Tau, and Alpha Phi. Alpha Phi's is cool because all the bedrooms are different. Chi Omega and Sigma Delta Tau had really beautiful common areas.

I went through recruitment last year too and chi omegas house didn't stick out to me, and they don't even have a chef. They're house was forgettable. I personally wouldn't place them on the same level as the sdt or a phi house.

You're entitled to your opinion, and so am I. If we're talking about house appearances I don't see how a chef make a house prettier though.

Chi O isn't my favorite from the outside but inside was really nice especially their living room.

Chi o has been redoing their house a lot over the past year. My roommate from freshmen year is in that house (I'm in another) and the house is drastically different from when we rushed two years ago. The bedrooms are the biggest of all the sorority houses and their common areas are super nice. The whole no chef thing is not even a bad thing because the girls get to make their own food whenever and they have a really nice kitchen. Plus most houses don't have a chef on the weekend so you need a meal plan/money for food.

Gotta agree with the chef vs. no chef convo above. Some URI sororities have exceptional chefs and dining areas. Other have very average to below average meal options and dining areas (especially for breakfast and lunch), and food isn't available most weekends or has to be reheated or not available if you can't make meal times (so you're still paying for or preparing food yourself on some days or at certain times). Unless the sorority meal plan food is amazing and available whenever I'm available to eat, I'd rather spend my money prepping my own convenient and healthy meals.
